I saw a fumble - not a 100% sure he caught it but it looked like he dropped it - as I said I'm West Stand Near the North so someone else would have had a much better view than me.
It was given as handball by Varney with the upper half of his arm. The linesman was demonstrating right in front of us to the ref as they were leaving the field for H/T. As they came out for the second half, Varney was showing Weaver what he thought had actually happened and was clearly suggesting that the ball hit him square in the chest. I didn't get a clear view (very wengeresque) of the incident and will look forward to seeing it again. Anyone get a clearer view of the "handball" ?
i sat right there, was given as handball, definitely didn't look like it to me, lino was a bit clueless, made some bad decisions regarding throw-ins, in or out and which way, very harsh.
Luke Varney has spoken of his disappointment that his potential second goal, and equaliser, against Colchester United on New Year's Day was ruled out for handball.
The striker made an immediate impact following his arrival in the 37th minute as manager Alan Pardew introduced a second striker, pulling a goal back for the Addicks just before half-time.
And he almost made it a quickfire double prior to the break, only for his celebrations to be brought to a halt by the assistant referee's flag.
"I was very surprised because it was a split-second thing,” said Luke, who raced in between the United defence and U's goalkeeper Dean Gerken.
The advancing Gerken just got to the ball ahead of Varney, but blasted his clearance straight at the Charlton forward.
Varney reacted quickly to reach the resulting loose ball first, and crashed his shot into the net off the underside of the bar, but turned around to see the linesman signalling to the referee.
"I don't understand how I could have been penalised for handball because the goalkeeper kicked it straight at me,” added Luke.
"Looking back at it on the video, I suppose it's one of those decisions that sometimes goes your way and sometimes doesn't, but I was quite disappointed not to have got a second goal.”
His first effort, when he calmly converted Lloyd Sam's cross after a neat dummy from strike partner Chris Iwelumo at the front post, took his tally for the season to four goals.
And Varney admitted he was disappointed not to have started the game after playing on the right wing against Leicester City three days earlier.
"I felt I had a decent game against Leicester and I want to play games,” he said.
"I want to score goals for the club, and hopefully I can became the goalscorer that the club needs and repay some of the money that the club paid for me.”
Charlton finished the first half by putting Colchester under heavy pressure, but although the Addicks dominated possession in the second half, they were unable to level the scores.
"It was a tough game because Colchester are scrapping away,” said Varney. "We needed to keep our composure and keep playing.
"It was hard to break them down and get that second goal, and I'm sure if we had got one more we would have gone on to score a few more as well.”
With West Bromwich Albion, Charlton's opponents in the FA Cup on Saturday, losing the same day, the gap between fifth-placed Charlton and the league leaders remains only seven points, despite Pardew's men taking just three of the 12 points available over the Christmas and new-year period.
Said Varney: "The results keep going for us, but we don't seem to be able to pick up results ourselves - that's the disappointing thing.
"Obviously we are pleased no one is pulling away, but we need to pick up more points.
"The gap is only seven points but have to look at our own performances, and our own individual displays, and improve so we can get back up the league.”

Considering the GK has the use of his hands and (from where I was) dropped it it was there for the taking!
Sorry If any of this is wrong and if anyone got a closer view - please let us know.
