Minute's Silence/Applause

Quite surprised we didnt have one on Saturday for Phil O'Donnell, i think that it's being planned for the Blackpool game (all those who have passed away in the past 12 months) and was this the reason for the lack of one or was it the same across all games?

  • i think it was only the Premiership and Sheffield Wednesday v Preston that observed one yesterday
  • Sad as it is, where do you draw the line though ?

    Scottish prem player ?
    English league player ?
    English non-league player ?

Its a very grey area, and silences and applauses shouldn't be banded around willy nilly.

Paying respect to someone is an individual choice and should not be forced upon people. That said, those that disrupt them are scum of the earth.
  • True enough AFKA when it's a retired player, manager or the like, but a player collapsing on the pitch and dying is something very different. Much closer to home and quite shocking and something I think we as fans can all identify with. I'm sure too that the players would've been very affected by it too.

I was certainly peed off that we didn't do something yesterday. Regardless of the 12th Jan thing (which is a fantastic idea BTW, hats off to Ben and all those involved in it) I don't think it would've hurt at all.
  • I'm with AFKA on this.

I don't think it would be appropreate for us as fans to hold a slience/applause for someone with no connection with the club.
  • Call me old fashioned but I still think a minutes silence is far more poignant than the applause.

And I think the applause approach has tended to be more widely adopted because it obviously counteracts those mindless idiots who cant show respect for the 1 minute.

I dont know what do now. Clap or stay stumm.
  • What a sad state of affairs that so many morons do not have the self discipline, courtesy, call it what you will to respect a minutes silence which is a far more moving tribute than applause in my opinion.

Once again we give in to disruptive elements and have applause because the morons cannot disrupt that so easily.

If fair notice has been given of a silence then anybody disrespecting it should be ejected by the stewards.
