One of my mates does a lot of travelling round watching other games and he saw Youga playing for Scunthorpe and reckoned he was the best player on the pitch.
Being a cup match i'd like to see Youga and maybe Racon start not just Dickson. Semedo is on four yellows and we can ill afford to have him get booked and then suspended.
Maybe rest Iwelumo and start with Dickson and Varney and go 4-4-2?
And maybe I'd give Randolph a run out in place of Weaver, not that the latter is in need of a rest, just that a game like this could be used to give our second string keeper a bit more experience.
With west Brom chasing promotion I wonder what sort of team they'll put out? Lately most teams in their position (playing away against similar teams) have tended to play a second team, lose and concentrate on the league.
IF a team is going to play 4-4-2 effectively, the full backs are key. They need to be able to get up and down the pitch and contribute in the oppositions half. Mootoo has shown that he could do that in his few appearances, and Youga seems to have been doing the same at Scunthorpe - when he manages to stay on the pitch.
Moutaouakil and Youga is a better combo than Sir Chris and Tragic. I hope Pards gives 'em a go for a few games, at least.
[cite]Posted By: cafc_in_perth[/cite]They (WBA) will look at this as a lets win and show Charlton how much better than us they are and another home defeat would really hurt.
I think West Brom will want to rest a few key players too - after all, promotion surely is their priority.

Didn't they have a few key players out the last time we played them?
I'm with Salad, I'd like to see Mcleod and Varney start up front. I feel sorry for Big Chris because it's not his fault, but he needs to be dropped for the benifit of the team. If we take away the target man and go with pace up front, maybe the rest of the team will take the hint, stop launching long balls from the back and play some football.
What I am worried about, as someone else pointed out in another post, is how little confidence Pards seems to have in the squad of players he has put together. We really need to liven the side up cos the ones playing at the moment aren't doing the business and don't seem to be playing for their place.

Pards won't be completely living in cloud cuckoo land.
We are disappointed with some of the players he's signed - and no doubt he is too.
Some players have great technical ability but for a variety of reasons, can't perform or fit the system.
Some won't be able to show their best perhaps until next season - or even at another club.
That's the footballer's psyche for you.
As somebody else pointed out recently, Pards is a gambler.
He has a history for going shopping for bargains in the lower divisions - not all pay off but some will.
The report is from the Scunthorpe evening paper so Youga's bound to say the things they want to hear.
And he's been loving it up there because they've given him a chance and he's appreciated that.
He'll remember that he wasn't particularly rated at Charlton before and in his head he's not expecting much to have changed when he gets back.
But like all players who actually get a long run in the team, that experience breeds confidence and takes the player to the next level. If he's been playing every week for Scunny, then he's got to be considered good enough in the CCC.
This guys got energy, he's strong & enthusiastic.
He might be just what we are looking for.
I saw the smiley, West Side but I'm still going to comment ;o)
If you put yourself inside Youga's head, maybe you'll see that he has been enjoying his time there, making friends, playing football every week and didn't want to lose his place in the team.
At the time of the interview, he'd just played his last game for Scunny, maybe still at the post match conference (as he scored what would have been their winning goal but for a last minute penalty) and very much still on a high.
And not looking forward to coming back and being the forgotton man in Charlton's stiffs.
From today's OS feature, it looks likely Pards will start him against West Brom - and let's face it, if he does well he could establish himself in the team. Let's hope the Charlton boo boys don't get to him first.
I find this whole situation perverse. We have two aging left backs in Sir Chris and Thatch, we have Shergars human alter-ego permenantly absent and we had to dig out Basey from the reserves; yet possibly our best left back has been playing for our rivals.
I understand that he is pretty good going forward with plenty of energy which, is precisely what we want in my view. Too often our full backs have been afraid to get too far forward for fear of getting caught unable to get back.

Sounds like a good move to me.
And if we signed Jesus you'd complain that he was only good on crosses.
nailed on that one.
Dear old Sir Chris, well into his 39th year, has just played 4 games in 11 days - and needs a well earned rest.
Pards will know that.
And I bet Dicko plays at some point against West Brom too. Expect several who've been playing with injuries over Xmas to be rested.
Youga's obviously proved his worth for Scunny - lots of energy, physically strong and enthusiastic.
It'll be good to see if he can do the biz for us.

...And why wouldn't he. Two years at Charlton and only the slighest of sniffs at getting anywhere near the first team.
You watch, he'll play, misplace a pass and you'll get the "Oh f*ck off Youga, you've got a girl's name and want to be in Scunthorpe anyway"
Well lets see if we can make him feel welcome now. He does sound pretty peed off with us.
And who can blame him. Let's hope he plays a blinder and remains in the squad if not the team.

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo booooooooooooooooooooooo
;-)
Unfortunately a left back is not, and never will be the key to a team's promotion challenge.
Good full backs won't get you promoted, but poor ones might stop you from getting promoted.

I especially like the comment "If anyone is going to beat WBA 5-0 it'll be Charlton". Great sense of humour lad.
