My Patience ran out yesterday...

edited January 2008 in General Charlton
Probably one of the worst home performances I've ever seen and it's probably a good job that I couldn't type this at 5pm last night or else it would probably have been unprintable.

For what it's worth, my take on things (having calmed down only slightly) from yesterday.

Weaver - did o.k, but needs to come off his line more (and quicker) and also catch the ball rather than punch it !!

Powell - oh dear, so sad to see such a great bloke and once great player being put through this week after week, he is just clearly not up to the job anymore and it's doing him no favours at all.

Magic - words fail me, how much did we waste on this bloke ??

Paddy - lucky not to be sent off for the penalty in my opinion, can see why he was subbed, squad player at best.

Fortune - did o.k for me, but is a much better player with Sodje beside him

Thomas / Sam - thought both were o.k and our best players on the day, the most likely source of anything happening.

Holland / ZZ - plenty of energy but no real cutting edge, missing Reid badly.

Iwelumo - never been his biggest fan but gave him the benefit after the two last minute winners....but no more, I cannot see what he brings to the team, he's slow and cannot win anything in the air (quite an achievement for a bloke who must be 6ft 3 (ish), we are just so predictable when he plays and more often than not he seems to manage to give away a free kick.

Give Varney a run in the side UP FRONT !!!!!, beginning to look a class act and needs a run of games

I believe we need 3 quality players this month (not sure who or where they will come from), a centre half, centre midfielder and a centre forward (old head preferably to partner Varney).....the spine of our team is spineless at the moment.

Here's hoping...

It was that bad, after about 35 mins the missus and I were debating whether we should renew our season tickets next year. I was of the opinion that I wasn't going to bother but she wants to give it another year.
  • Two defensive cockups gift Colchester two goals and after that it was always going to be extremely difficult to get anything out of the game.

Our defense is prone to lapses and the midfield do not get back quick enough to help out.

Going forward we look good in spots but both Sam and Thomas seem to be allergic to the byeline. They get to the edge of the box and almost without fail either cut inside or chip the ball into the box. The one time in the first half one of them got behin the full back and put the ball across we scored. The only times we looked dangerous in the second half (other than the Ambrose miss at the end) were when we got behind the defence. Both wingers had the beating of their defenders and were getting backup from the full backs yet insisted (as they have done all season) on cutting back inside and crossing from the edge of the box.

As for the crowd, we all moan about playing the long ball up to Iwelumo yet when we actually play it around and wait for the right moment for an attacking pass the crowd are on the players backs telling them to get on with it.
  • I'll renew next season as i can't see myself doing anything else saturday afternoons.Yesterday was poor as i ruined two new years resolutions.

Not to drink too much b4 the game
Not to get too upset when we lose

My mates said it was the most animated they had seen me at a game in 20 odd years.I'll be there on saturday and all being well 1965 jr will be down from Wales for his first ever Charlton game(poor little sod) :)
  • We were absolutely cack - a complete embarrassment to the game of football. I wont be going to the FA cup match on saturday and seriously considering not renewing my season ticket if this type of crap continues. PARDEW SORT IT OUT!
  • Us, the crowd were crap, which doesn't help at all, but it was a poor performance by a poor team. Magic was good as full back, but once he moved inside we had no good defenders, Sir Chris should retire before he starts tarnishing his much deserved standing with the fans. As Eltham says, Holland and ZZ had energy and nothing else, Iwelumo is hard working but mediocre. Lisbie was an embarrassment to us, made fools of Fortune, McCarthy and Bougherra and showd up our "strike force" for the limited talents they have.
I was going to go on Saturday, but don't think I can face seeing us get murdered.
