AJAX'S ROMMEDAHL NAMED FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR
The best of the best were honoured during football's annual awards ceremony
Fleet-footed right wing Dennis Rommedahl beat out three other members of the national team to be named the Danish Football Association's Player of the Year for 2007 on Monday evening.
Rommedahl, 29, transferred to Ajax Amsterdam from England's Charlton where he has seen significantly more playing time. But the award's panel of players cited his efforts as a member of the national team as their reason for awarding him the prize.
Also in the running were Liverpool's Daniel Agger, Villareal's Jon Dahl Tomasson and Martin Jørgensen, who plays for Fiorentina in Italy's Serie A.
Receiving the award, Rommedahl said the award was a team effort.
'I'd like to thank my team-mates, who are also my friends. But I'd like to thank my enemies as well. They are the ones we play against, and they are the ones who make me the player that I am today.'
