'World' live commentary

edited December 2007 in General Charlton
I have subscribed a few times for the 99p 7 day trial on other clubs' websites in order to listen to our commentaries. However there has been some confusion with my subscription meaning that 'World' have now debited my account for a year's subscription to the Cardiff City commentary (ooooh joy!).
This by the way is the service that both Charlton and Southampton have refused to sign up to.

Here is a copy of their e-mail and my reply. Just thought you may all be interested:

Dear Sir /Madam,

I do not wish to have a year's subscription to this website. I am not a supporter of either Cardiff, Scunthorpe or Burnley. I had already sent an e-mail to make this clear when I took the one week's free trial with the Scunthorpe site. It is a bit confusing that I have to e-mail you twice for both of my recent Cardiff and Burnley subscriptions. Ironically Cardiff played Charlton only yesterday and I did not use this service to listen to the commentary because I thought it had been cancelled.

If you offered the service with Charlton Athletic I would accept these terms but being that that is the case I ask that you re-imburse me this subscription.

In any case your terms and conditions are not clear. It refers to 10 working days prior to the end of the month or year (depending on whether you are buying a month's or year's subscription). This is not very clear. You also talk about a free trial and cancelling before the free trial period has ended. However I did not take a 'free' trial; I took a '7 day 99 pence trial.' There is no mention of the 99 pence trial. Therefore I ask that you reconsider your decision to debit my card a years' subscription for a service I will never use.

Yours Faithfully,

David Target.

  • That should have read 'being that that is NOT the case'
  • You will still be able to listen to all of Charlton's commentaries (except the home game vs Southampton) using your Cardiff login. I subscribed to the Luton service (prior to our Carling Cup game) and simply login to their site every time (regardless of who we are paying) and then click on 'Audio Commentary' - you are then shown a list of ALL the matches being broadcast.
  • They let me cancel:

Dear David, Thank you for contacting us. We have cancelled your subscription and authorised a refund. This may take 10 days to reach your account. We note that you have a subscription with Burnley. This too will become an annual repeating subscription unless cancelled by you via the My Account page at least the day before 8th December 2007. We will not refund this or any other payment if you fail to cancel in time.

Interesting but too late. Thanks for that. I'd rather pay 99 pence each time anyway as I don't think I'll be doing it 40 times.
  • We were actually better off last season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least then we could pay 99p and actually get it!!!!
