So what does Matt Holland bring to the team?

edited December 2007 in General Charlton
I was saddened to see his name on the starting team at the weekend. I really have not rated him for some time. He is always off the pace, can't win a header, doesn't tackle very often and always has clean shorts at the end of a match.

I fail to see what he adds that Semedo cannot do!

Any ideas anyone?

Nope, I'm with you. I've never been a fan of Holland however in fairness, he hasn't done much wrong since he came back in but I just can't see what he adds to the side that justifys the dropping of Semedo.
  • When he came on at Preston, believe it or not, a couple of times he didn't just tackle people, he actually went through them!

He also provides some of the leadership on the pitch that Reidy lacks. He gee's up the lads, stops people confronting the ref (Mills on saturday) and has the "sensible" moan at the ref (ie. the one that's not going to get carded).

Skill-wise, Semedo jst edges it, but for experience and leadership, Matty's your man.

    Experience.

That's what Pards would say anyway.

I like Matty, always professional, stumped up with important goals and to be honest you don't play as many games as he did without being half decent.

He played ok on saturday, threw himself into some challenges and rarely gave the ball away. He understands the game in this league/country a lot better than Semedo (at the moment). Sometimes i feel Semedo dawdles on th ball and puts unnecessary pressure on himself and the team.
  • The cleanest shorts known to man.
  • 6 goals against for starters.
  • A chance to sing E-I-E-I-O
  • ...and a goal against Cardiff!
  • LOL

    Swisdom, give us a song,

  • I wondered if this would come and bite me in the arse today!!

    you merciless bunch of turds!

Maybe I was trying a little reverse psychology. I'll do one about McLeod on Friday!
  • fcuk me Swisdom if he scores I'm gettin pelters off everyone!!!
  • I'd be intrested to know what else he did in the game.

Far play to Matty but I still reckon that Semedo offers more, especially in a 4-4-2.
  • he won every 50-50 and was in my opinion our best player last night along with the sodj.Who let the sodj out who, who, who, who.
  • Cardiff website i saw gave matty their MoM
  • Ha ha, I've only just seen this. Say what you like about Matty but the fact is, he's been to and played in two world cups, shows leadership and has a presence on the pitch, stillhas a bloody good engine and will chip in with the odd important goal (something I can never see Semedo doing).

He'd be third on my teamsheet after Reidy and Weaver.
  • It was good to see him on Saturday, when we were 3-1 down, going round to every single player, putting his arm around them & offering them words of encouragement. Although Reid was officially the captain, Holland was fulfilling the captains role. I think he is a legend. He always battles 110%, drives everybody else on & always, always claps the supporters at the end regardless of the score. Well done Matty.
