but hint they admire him at the same time, according to Sky
Ipswich manager Jim Magilton insists he has not made moves for West Brom midfielder Richard Chaplow or Charlton winger Darren Ambrose.
The Tractor Boys are on the verge of a £44million takeover from businessman Marcus Evans and it is thought Magilton will be handed a hefty transfer budget in the wake of any potential new investment.
Ipswich, who travel to Cardiff on Saturday, currently sit in the Championship play-off positions and the Portman Road faithful are expecting a push for the Premier League this season.
Magilton is expected to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window and he admits that he is ready to deal with the speculation that will surround his targets.
However, he insists that he has not spoken to Chaplow or Ambrose about possible moves.
"There is going to be a lot of speculation in the coming months and they are both fine players," Magilton told the club's official website.
"I'm sure our fans will be delighted to hear us linked with Ambrose again. I've always admired him as a player and had the opportunity to play with him.
"He's had his ups and downs in his career and probably needs a stable environment but he's very much a Charlton player.
"They're two very good, young players who would make a difference to us but I haven't had any contact with either of them."
