Kevin Fox RIP

edited November 2007 in General Charlton
From OS

One of the leading lights of the Valley Party, the single-issue party formed by Charlton supporters to contest the 1990 Greenwich Council elections, has died. Kevin Fox was 75.

He polled almost a thousand votes, more than any other Valley Party candidate, in Sherard ward against the then leader of the council, cllr Quentin Marsh.

His son David said: "He had an uncanny ability to engage with people from all walks of life. "During the build-up to the election, he visited every single residence within Sherard Ward - even though he was working full-time as a sales director in the print industry.'

  • Very sad to hear that Henry.
Where did you get to with your proposal for selecting a game (once a season) when there would be a minute's silence for all fans that have passed away?
  • sad news ...rip

RIP Kevin. Through your efforts we still have a club (and a Valley) to love.

Very sad indeed. Been agreed by the board that it will happen and be a minutes applause. I'm hoping it will be a game early in the new year.

It was for people such as Kevin and other such as Maurice Banham who, with no disrespect to them, wouldn't warrant a minutes silence/applause but who in this way can still be remembered at a game.
  • i was too young to stand as a candidate myself and kevin was the candidate where i lived. used to see him all over the estate leading up to the election.
i didn't know him personally but i seem to recall him receiving a heroes welcome in the white hart, eltham on the election night.

    RIP
  • Well done to you and the board. A very good move.
  • Great job Henry and Kevin's family and us have so many reasons to treasure his memory.
  • Lovely fella, was Kevin. I helped his son, David, with the election campaign in New Eltham and got to know Kevin quite well. RIP Kevin. You'll be missed.
  • Kevin was fully committed to the cause in 1990. He was the only candidate other than the Labour party to stand in sherard ward. When the candidates were announced prior to the election you could almost feel the panic in Labour party. They had to put so much effort into that ward fearing that the Valley party might actually unseat the leader of the council.

Rest in peace Kevin, you've a place in Charltons history.

  • RIP a true Addick who didn't just sit there moaning. He went and made things happen.
  • All i want to add is a BIG Thank you to Kevin and all the other Valley Party members and supporters who campaigned for our return to the valley.

RIP and forever to be remembered for a tireless effort.
  • RIP Kevin...Top man, and condolences to his family
  • RIP-Kevin I think his votes alone sent shock waves through the local Labour Party and were instrumental in our return.
  • Very sad news, Like PBS i didn't know him personaly but he stood for my ward and i used to help him with his leaflet drops etc.
    RIP
  • Thanks for helping to give me the chance to support Charlton at The Valley - wouldnt have it any other way.

    RIP
  • RIP...my Dad stood in those elections and got to know Kevin pretty well
  • What sad news, Kevin was a one of the good guys. Enjoyed his company during and after the campaign. My thoughts go out to his family.

    RIP Kevin.
  • a true charlton legend in his own right RIP
  • I knew Kevin, his son David is a good friend of mine.
Kevin was a real character and the effort he put into the Vally Party was typical of anything he was involved in.
Anyone who drank in the White Hart in Eltham when it was a decent pub would have known Kevin. He enjoyed life and was someone who I enjoyed having many conversations with over the years.
