Strange comments from the Gillingham manager about what happens once Dickson's loan period is up: "Then a decision has to be made. The more he scores, the harder it will be to keep him as there will be bigger fish looking at him."
Makes it sound as though we have no say in the matter & that he will be sold to the highest bidder. What an odd thing to say. Surely he will come back to us once his loan is over & compete for a place in our first team.

B***cks, f off Gillingham. We signed him for £30,000 ha ha ha he he he
Precisely Carter, thats why it is such fun loaning him to that no mark former Spanner loving pillock Sc*lly. Oh how I will laugh as the Valley Express takes more and more people from the Gills area to watch Chris knocking them in for us and we only paid £30k for him.
That's the whole point of all these loans. We get a better player back eg Basey, their price has gone up IF we want to sell them, we save some money on wages and we don't have loads of grumpy players hanging around the training ground with no chance of getting in the first team.
And we get to feel smug with the Gills.
Getting back to Red Pete original point I read that to mean that another club, perhaps in the Championship might want him on loan. Imagine the last game of the season. Norwich and Palace are fighting the drop. Palace fans are celebrating as their draw at home has put them above Norwich on goal difference. Norwich are struglling to win at home when C. Dickson comes off the bench to get the goal that keeps the Canaries up and sends the Eagles down.
The exception appears to be the season long loan of Kelly Youga, in his last year of contract at Charlton - which rather indicates that our club have no intention of keeping him on.
If Dickson continues to do well, I feel that Pards will keep him and blood him in the Championship at some point.
Hopefully he'll still get a chance to dispatch the Orange One's Glaziers. )
Dicko is a pikey. End of.
Now that we have an idea of who is going to be challenging us and who won't ie Norwich, Preston there is no harm in helping them and they may get better results against WBA and Watford.
Isn't the Youga thing easier to see now that Basey has made the step up? How far down the picking order would Youga be, given that he has never/hardly ever gathered splinters in his ar*e on the bench let alone made the first team?
Kids will never prove themselves playing 2nd tier reserve games until the end of their contract - and then be released. Maybe it's just a case of we must send young players out on loan to lower league clubs as soon as possible - with the right club and games experience they can quickly blossom.
We needed a specialist left back with 3 first choices injured. Basey was in the right place at the right time.
And he's grabbed his chance with both hands.
Youga never had that chance.
I agree with that Oggy but Youga goes back a few years and never, for whatever reason, broke into the first team squad. I guess if you are looking now and if you are covered with
1. Experience - Thatch and Powelly
2. International level promise - Gibbs (hopefully)
3. Youthful promise - Basey
you'll figure that Youga is probably surplus to requirements, particularly if he's coming up to the end of his contact.
In the Curbishley Premiership years, youngsters most definitely did not get a real chance - safety first was
Alan Cautiously's watchword, experienced players only were the key, and as a rule youngsters were not risked - Parker & Konchesky, for example until much later.
Once, Sankofa had a run out at Man Utd as a 16 year old sub and looked more accomplished that day than he ever has since (!) ...... but I can't even recall Sankofa being sent out on loan (correct me if I'm wrong). It might have been the making of him.
It was the making of Parker. Youga went out to Bradford City last year in Division One and must have impressed Scunthorpe when they played against him.
Charlton appear not to rate Youga, although they must have done once. He's no doubt at Scunthorpe to make way for a younger player coming through (Basey?) and to see out his contract.
Or is he? Phil Parkinson, in his interesting behind-the-scenes blog on the OS, makes reference to monitoring the young players out on loan and he specifically mentions Youga.
He also says that Basey would never have been considered for the first team if he hadn't just returned from 10 League games at Brentford.
Anyway, sorry to be so long winded. The point I'm trying to make is these young players need competitive senior games at a lower level as soon as possible. When they're loaned out, management can not only see if they've got what it takes but they may get a surprise.
Walker doesn't seem to be setting games on fire at Yeovil, Dickson definitely is at Jills and Josh Wright at Barnet has also made a great impact.
But maybe Youga is the one that has surprised everybody. Not least those at Charlton!
And that's because he's been given a chance to actually play.
And Dickson also scores for Jills.
8 goals in 10 matches )
Thanks also for taking the 10 minutes needed for reading my posting ..... )
Whatever happens, we're going to get back a far more confident striker that left us a couple of months ago.
Totally agree AFKA. Bearing in mind Dickson was playing for Dulwich Hamlet this time last year, by anyones measure he has come a long way. That he can get this kind of return at the Gills, and also his all round play is improving by all accounts, it looks better and better business.
as appealing as that sounds, does the 10 minutes sub appearance in the carling cup for us mean that dickson has played for 3 clubs already this season, (us, crewe and gills)?
isn't there a rule which doesn't allow more than 3 clubs?
...........
Only permanent transfers I think, Crewe and the Gills were as loans.
GILLINGHAM are desperate to keep in-form Charlton hitman Chris Dickson on loan for another month - but the Addicks are yet to decide whether to extend the deal, writes Rob Kelly.
The 22-year-old has become a real fans' favourite at Priestfield after netting eight goals in 10 games for the Gills, and boss Mark Stimson has admitted the club could struggle to retain his services.
With just three recognised strikers available in Alan Pardew's Charlton squad following Svetoslav Todorov's season-ending injury last month, it was thought that the forward would return to SE7.
However, it is understood that no decision has been made yet at The Valley on whether to allow him to stay in Kent for another month.
Stimson said: "We would like to keep Chris but there are some big clubs probably looking at him.
"The sad thing about him scoring goals is it ups the value and every time he puts a goal in, it pushes it higher and higher. All we can do is show him what we're all about."
we are more likely to play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 however you look at it..
i'm not having this untried nonsense anymore in this league. PL maybe but not here.
I'm not saying I'm against him being recalled, just don't think it will do him any good.
My worry would be that because of his scoring record at non league level and at Gillingham that our fans would expect him to do exactly the same for us. That could happen but i doubt it and knowing our fans they'd soon be on his back if he went 3,4, 5 games without a goal. I personally would leave him out on loan but with the option to recall him at short notice.
That said 4 in 8 is still very respectable and I agree with those who say leave him there but with a 24 hour recall clause.

This is a good move, given Tody's injury, Varney's patchy form and McLeods lack of goals.
I havn't seen enough of him to judge - but my old man goes to the reserve games and says that although he is raw he is a natural goalscorer and will outscore most of our other strikers if he got the chance.
I did see him score against Welling in pre-season. tight angle and made the goal himself by sheer persistence.
