  • He was on the board at the time.

He was certainly always an advocate of ground sharing but I've heard from others that he was not the main architect of the move. RIck Everitt, in his book, says that Hill and Derek Ufton tried to talk Fryer out of the idea of the move.
  • Wasnt he involved shortly after (1987?)in Fulhams 'Save The Cottage' campaign as they were about to get turfed out ???
  • How did he get on the board ? being a Fulham man etc how did it come about?

Fryer invited him onto the board. Must get Richard Collins and Derek Ufton along to City or Bromley Addicks. Both were there at the time.

He was friendly with Derek Ufton and accepted an invitation from him to join the board. It was at the time when Sunley had just saved the club from the hands of the receivers and the board felt that they needed someone who knew a bit about running a football club

From the Essential History of Charlton Athletic.

"Later in the year ,this increased to seven with the addition of John Sunley and TV pundit Jimmy Hill, the latter being brought to the club by his friend ,Derick Ufton."
