would it encourage fans to go to away games if

the club regularly updated the ticket news section with the number of tickets sold ?...saints away for instance...the site says we have 3,000 tickets but surely if there was an indication that there were actually charlton fans going to the game then that might encourage others to go as well, especially with 2 home games coming up...and, gawd forbid, the sales for an away match actually pass the 1,000 level because that definitely might get a few more going if that was made public...anybody else feel that waiverers might be more encouraged to go if they knew that there might be a reasonable turnout ?...

not really. If antything it would have an opposite impact. People would hold off and then pull out if there isn't a decent number.

as no doubt proved by the fact that at present there is no number and that may be putting fans off...

lets go back to saints for instance...surely the club has sold tickets for this and most likely most people are holding out for the two home games (especially with the recent post strikes) before getting/deciding to get their tickets...now i dont know how many tickets have been sold todate but i bet i'm not the only one thinking it must be a low if the club doesn't publish it...whereas, say 500+ sold already would be a decent number given the 2 home games this week...

Free porn! Now there's an incentive.

In all seriousness poor away turnouts are caused by high ticket / travel / drink / food etc prices and a lack of hardcore away fans...... We arent the only ones that suffer from this.

Palace had 200 at Burnley the other week

i think another problem is that everybdoy moans about how few fans are going away and that's having a major effect in putting peple off...i bet that if charlton fans thoght here were at least 2k going down to southampton then the other 1k would go like a shot...the clubs have got to start marketing the away games as well as the home games...let fans know how many tickets have been sold so far so the can judge the eventual turnout...keep updating the numbers on a daily basis...i suspect apathy is playing a huge part in discouraging the away support...

we took just over a 1,000 to Wolves on Saturday, a crap place to go and clashing with the rugby final. We took over 2,000 to Coventry a couple of weeks ago.

Numbers wise, its not as bad as people are making out. We never used to take over a thousand to Wolves for a league game.

wouldn't charlton be more happier if people's money was spent on charlton.our operations bringing great away support haven't really been overly successful.

but isnt that the problem then, everybody's perception is that there will be hardly any other fans going so they take the chance of being one of just a few if they go away whereas most fans would rather be one of many when they go away...and if they knew there was going to be a dcent turnout then that might just be the deciding factor in whether they go as well...

I thought it was a reasonable turn out for Wolves actually! Crap layout at the ground though - really ruined any atmosphere

Southampton should be a decent turnout anyway LTGTR.

Plenty of excuses not to go to an away game other than that one until Sat 29th Dec at Leicester by my reckoning.

At the end of the day, people have different priorities on away days. You have to have that extra bit of passion to be a regular away fan and seeing that we have sold 200 or 2000 for Southampton wont make any difference to me going or not.

I hope that doesnt sound like a dig at non away game people cos it isnt.

I will pick & choose my away games & will continue to do so. Although I am far more inclined to go this season as we actually try to win the bleedin game for a change.

LargeAddick said he didn't go to Wolves due to the price. 27 quid wasn't it? This has got to be a factor. Far too much for a Division 2 match. perhaps people should pick and choose more often according to the price. That might help force clubs to put their prices down.

Lastly I don't see how the 'Chase the Egg' Final could have affected anyone's attendance. Apart from it being a load of old shit, it wasn't even being played anywhere near at the same time.

With a minimum cost of £100 for an away day, I can't see how I'll be able to do anything but pick and choose.

When I was 15 I used to do 75% of away day's because of Child ticket prices/travel fares etc. Also no need to drink. So an away day could cast me between £20-50. As I was working from that age selling the evening standard after school up town I could afford it. The second you have to pay adult prices though unless you're raking in loads of money and have no life away from Charlton you've got no choice but to pick and choose now.

if every team we played had a new ground i'm sure our away turn outs would be impressive, hence 2k at coventry and 1k at wolves and on our first visit to soton's current ground we sold out, i don't think we'll sell out there in a couple of weeks

I don't see myself at many away games - the two games in Sheffield being most likely as travel costs are nowt - both grounds are about 1 1/2 miles away from where I live.

I am on an 8 game streak at the moment and have had trips to Colchester, Luton, Hull, Coventry and Wolves. In addition to that a home game is a 100 mile round trip for me too

I am earning a pretty good wage and I drive up alone and I really enjoy the day because I am going to most games expecting us to get a result and I get to relax.

Having said that it IS very expensive nowadays and I am waiting or the wife to put her foot down and tell me to stop going to all these games
