[cite]Posted By: Charlton Dan[/cite]Lets get it into perspective. We lost for the 1st time in 8 games..... Its hardly time to start slating the team / Pards etc.
Agreed however I am getting a bit concerned that we aren't turning chances into goals and putting pressure on ourselves by leeking them in at the other end. Not saying it's panic button time but there does seem to be a theme developing .
2 points dropped at Coventry, 2 against Barnsley and at least another 1 on saturday. I just hope it isn't going to cost us in the long run.
Did I think we would, no I didn't. Did I think we can, yes I do, based on looking at the other teams in the league, the standard is a lot lower than I thought it would be, and I am convinced we have the squad to be in the top two. Watford seem to have kept their team together largely from last year, so are in a better position than us - akin to when we bounced back last time - if not better with Marlon King back.

we are failing to convert possession into points/goals, cos we are too flat recently, no Sam, no Thomas (starting), no one else..unless we sort this we will tail off and not realise our potential is my worry.
The way I see it our home form should be the key to getting out of this division.
Every away game we attend the home team will try to step up their performance and we need to be ready for this. The fact that Charlton old boys constantly score aganst us is unfortunate but again - something we need to learn to deal with.
I am not worried yet as I believe we have more than enough quality to get out of this division but I think we might need to try a couple of new things out (such as Therry Racon and Moo2 getting a game). It's a long season and we do not want to have to call on some of the squad players when they have barely kicked a ball.
Winning home games is the key to this division. By throwing away two points againsT Barnsley we've put ourselves under a bit of pressure this week. Six points are expected and anything less than 4 and I think there will be plenty of whinging hear and around SE7 and North-West Kent. Hopefully Toderov will start tomorrow night which will force us to play football and we should be much too good for both Plymouth and QPR.
great post kinveachy and as i started this tread I thought I would just add a further comment.
I am told by most "experts" (ie, fellow supporters/friends) that to get promoted you will need around 90 points and this equates to 2 points a game or 4 ponits every 2 games, ie win your home games and draw away.
well, thats fine if you do and I beleive records show that most promoted teams only lose a handful at home and should win around 15/16 at home and draw the rest. Doing this means that you need to pick up a certain amount on your travels and recently we having been doing either and I put this down to not scoring enough. A second against Barnsley and Coventry would have meant another 4 points and scoring first on Sat would have meant at least another and probbaly 3.
We have 19 points from 11 game which equals 1.72 pts per game.
If we win our two upcoming home games, by no means a foregone conclusion, we shall have 25 pts from 13 games or 1.92 pts per game. Or one point of the target.

Goals win games - end of.
I will remind you of that at some point in the future. : - )
If we win tomorrow please start up a Thread praising the team for a change. You only ever seem to post after we have just lost one, must have been killing you see us not lose a league game since Stoke away. This is not a pop, just a statement of a fact, prove me wrong !
Answering your initial thread, fair comment re Illullemo, think we need to vary it a bit more not just in our play but in our team selection because for a change we can we have the depth to do it.
Can see Watford getting 95+ they are so far ahead in this division
Why are they so far ahead of this division though ? They have the one thing we appear not to have, a talismatic striker in Marlon King. Other than that i can't see too much different.
I thought this division would be tough to get out of. But the standard is not as great as i first expected, and would believe we had underperformed if come May we are not in the top two.
I feel Iwelumo gets played partly because he gives us more height in the team at defensive set pieces, somewhere we have looked dodgy at in earlier games
I'd like to see Toddy get more playing time as I think he's the best "footballer" we have other than perhaps Reid and ZZ. Toddy and Varney would be interesting but I like Big Chris and think he does a lot for the team as well as score and set up goals.
Like others I'm keen to see Racon. He seemed to have a lot of energy and may give us something different if Samedo goes to LB with Gibbs, Powell and Thatcher out.

Ive been saying this for ages. Its nice to see that you and a couple of others have also noticed it
Watford have done what we did in 99/00, kept the nucleus of their squad together, and have even added to it.
They have the best striker in the division (King), the best Centre Back in the division (Shittu) and arguably the best manager in the division and have a settled side which is all the better for the Premiership experience.
They are consistent.
They dont let many goals in other than the one off at Leicester.
They might not be as pretty as us but they certainly grind out results better.
I also backed them at 9/1 to win the league. Go Watford :)
As for Golf, he is a proven wind up, not interested in his comments.

I might become a Hornets fan..... Got to be better than the sh*t that some think we serve up
The reason I think Watford are strolling it is they didn't spend when they went up,and have kept their squad togethe,it hasn't changed in 3 years apart from the sale of Young & Bouazza, this has enabled them to stregthen this year as opposed to us offloading players.
As a number of people have stated Watford are in a similar position to us in 99 and should go straight back up. King being injured last season ensured there were unable to put up a decent fight against relegation but also meant he didn't score goals and get snapped up a la Benty so should make hay in this division. Have to agree with AFKA though, at the start of the season with a brand new team I would have been more than happy with 6th place but having seen the standard of the opposition and a few games between other sides on SKY anything less than automatic promotion would now be a massive disappointment...
I was surprised though at how ordinary their team on Saturday looked on paper - I hadn't heard of half the players there. Yet Boothroyd seems to have them working well together and King looks a handful. Long way to go yet though.
Coventry are dropping away. Permently or temporary blip?
Southampton are climbing. Flash in the pan or true class showing?
Watford were my tips to win the league for some of the reasons given above. We aren't taking the chances we are creating which is a concern. When/If we stop creating chances then It's be a worry.
BTW We have never lost when AFKA has presented a cheque on the pitch. : - )
Don't ask Golfie to be positive about Charlton. It's like asking President Bush to join Amnesty International.
I don't know why it annoys people though. As long as he can back up his arguments with good reason then we just have to accept it. If he says something's not right and it's true then it's true. Tough tittys.
Personally I think there are some people on here with unrealistic expectations. Just as Watford are benefitting from only one season away from this divsion with players of experience of it, so are we going to suffer from a seven year absence with a team assembled from all different leagues. Only the manager has a real CV for this league and even he's only gone up through the play-offs. Considering all that I think that we should be very happy about our position.

Eh? Did you think we would steamroll this divison with an arrogance?

Can see Watford getting 95+ they are so far ahead in this division but still think its a 3 way battle with Wolves and West Brom for second.
All three teams arent as consistent as Watford so will drop points, I reckon 82-84 will get second.

Indeed I did. Thank you pointing out my slip. I shall correct it post-haste.
