according to rumors they are going into administation .
all we ask is two things please regarding the kit , well maybe three.
1. a decent sponsor with a track record which won't go bust. It's all very well getting a big money deal but if that company goes bust without paying up then it's worthless.
2. a decent kit manufacturer. I'm fed up with crap like joma , le coq and ribero , if teams like hull can have umbro then it really can't be a matter of shirt sales , even the franchise scum of MK have nike.
3. this time lets make sure the contract length of the kit maker and the shirt sponsor tie in with each other.
another thing which would be nice is a bit of consultation with the fans on the style , the only reason that didn't work a couple of years ago was because the choices they offered were all crap.
I think we should have a local provider. Anyone know someone who makes kits? ; - )
1. it's always going to be difficult to pick a sponsor on the basis that they won't go bust. Who raised any eyebrows about Northern Rock sponsoring Newcastle and Pompey were trying to nick Llanara off us last summer. all;sports went into administration but most of the other firms such as Viglen were taken over as they were so successful. Llanara's problems have been mentioned but not the same as all;sports at the moment. The club have been aware of and talking with Llanera about their problems for some time.
2. Some people like Joma others don't. As Northstandsteve, and this is something he does know something about : - ), the lower division deals with umbro etc aren't necessarily all they are cracked up to be. The big name suppliers also tend to stipulate a minimum number of shirt purchases and other clauses that don't always do clubs any favours. It's not just about the "brand" but also the fees and how many strips etc they supply that makes a good or bad deal.
3. There will be two new shirts next summer (home and away to replace the red and black) and this was always the plan regardless of Llanera's situation. It would be great to tie new shirts and new manufacturer to the same schedule but then all:sports go under and bugger the whole thing up.
The consultation is a good idea and I'll ask if we can do some version of it again but some people are going to say they are all "crap" and others will love them. The seahawk and denim is selling well despite a lot of people on CL saying they hated it. Maybe we should have a shirt focus group.
i think there's an opportunity here to sell a lot of shirts if the llanera deal does end...sell a cut price shirt with no sponsors name on it, knock 'em out at cost plus a fiver say and see how many we sell then...nobody'd going to object to that, nor will they object if a new shirt and sponsor is brought in for next season...
Jumping the gun a bit. The deal's not been torn up and Llanera and still trading to the best of my knowledge. LTGTR/AFKA, you know more about banking and the money markets but things may have settle down.
A blank shirt might be good idea but didn't we do something like this after the all:sports collapse with a very short life shirt and I don't think they sold that well. I'm trying to speak to the head of retail so when I do I'll mention it.
I think Llanera do have some involvement with the Spanish schools but if memory serves a great deal of the funding is from local European and council money.
The OS said we were not at any risk, which I take to mean that they've paid for this season. So surely we would just carry on with Llanera on the shirts. In fact if we didn't, maybe someone would try to get some of the money back?!
Many moons ago the club approached our business,(who was that geezer who run club shop tugwell or something) about making club shirts, this was in the bad old selhurst, upton park days, however the club wanted a lump sum up front and we would only start to make money once enough shirts had been sold,to repay the initial outlay. After a bit of market research from local shops,we were told Millwall shirts were a bigger seller (much to my disgust) it was too much of a gamble for a family business.Nowadays I would hate to think how much the club asks. All I would say is that I am loathed to buy replica shirts at the price the club sell as I know how much they cost to make,as manufacturing shirts is my business (one of few in the uk).The only reason the lower league teams wear, kits like Nike is because they can buy them cheap and sell them at a massive mark up.Pick up a catalogue and see the price of the shirts,we discount them by 25% ie £15.00 (MK Dons shirt) before any numbers, badge or sponsors go on them, yet I can make a profit at that figure, just think how much money professional clubs make when selling a shirt at £40.00.
I have a mate who owns a sportswear factory in Malaysia and they provide kits, shoes etc for him to sell to schools, clubs and colleges in the US. The exact same stuff that they provide for Nike minus the swoosh for 5% of the retail price.
I would like to see a better quality of kit where the logo sown in rather than transferred on.
I cannot imagine a local (UK) provider could provide the kit at a reasonable cost. It is always going to be made in China or similar Far East location.
Why don't the club link up with o2 for sponsorship, would make sense as they now occupy the dome. Great joint venture, local links, good advertising oppurtunities.

I'm sure the club would love to do a deal with O2 if the shirt sponsorship was available which at the moment it's not.
Thing is O2 sponsor the Dome, that other England team and didn't they sponsor Arsenal as well. Where do Charlton fit in to their range of sponsorships?
[cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]I would like Richard Branson's Virgin group to get involved with us - he would inject some funds and a global brand
Didn't do Palace much good, mind.
Since we've already banked Llanera's cash, I take it we're waiting to see how the season goes before going for another one? After all, it'll be blue chip brands in the Premier League, wood chips in the Championship...
How many real blue chip brands sponsor shirts in the Premier League? Samsung and Emirates Airlines is about all I can think of, the rest are beers, gambling sites or really small companies blowing there whole advertising budgets

The club does seem to have a poor touch when it comes to sponsors recently but it's hardly their fault.
I understand that Llanera have paid us this years so we'll just need to bring in a new one for next season.

That would ruin my day.

We've been paid, so if we do lose Llanera, we shouldn't suffer IF we get promoted.

We should be wearing persil white ...

I'm using it as a figure of speech, mind, because who'd sponsor us in the Championship? Selco builders' merchants?
Dunno, be interesting to find out who would.
