Im getting rather bored with our overseas chappies whingeing about not having access to live tv or commentary. You must have some positive reason for living where you do. We just have to put up with traffic (See Barnsley fan),pollution, bad weather, Gordon Brown, endless boring stuff about Man U or Chelsea, Strictly Come Dancing...etc etc. If it really matters that much come home to Sunny Souf East London.
Im just a bit bitter and pissed off. My car window got smashed after the game and this wonderful land of ours doesnt feel so good to me at the moment. Having struggled to find what games are on what radio channels I fully understand how the overseas fellas are feeling.
Where were you parked imtpm? There was a lot of trouble with parked cars last season, maybe it's still going on. If it is the OB aren't doing a very good job.
Penhall Road opposite the Horse and Groom. Ironically stayed a little longer to let traffic clear and chums have an extra pint. Think thats when it happened. Of course had my most prized item with me. The Season Ticket.

Same thing happened to us, in the same road, nearly 2 years ago. Did you have a sat nav mount in there, or the mark on the windscreen from one?
I doubt it happened after the game mate, probably during. The scum know that no-one is going to be around for a couple of hours from 3 til 5....
2 points and I window lost. I can get back the window. Now back to this Premiership business.
Doesnt anyone else feel like we are in the 3rd division. Div 1 = Champs League and UEFA (Bolton are an exception) Div 2 = Rest of Premiership Fodder Div 3 = Championship
The way the fixtures are set out it feels the Prem is ever becoming second fiddle. Perhaps a top flight of 12 clubs all perhaps with an interest in Europe and being owned worldwide might be a better set up after all.
as one of the overseas chappies - it is indeed mighty frustrating & to be honest i/we are so far removed from whats going on that it doesn't really seem like i'm supporting a football club at the moment - just watching results come through - i have absolutely nothing valid or relevant to say about how we are playing
i have the feeling that the club could do something to help us, but are not really bothered - the stuff you statement out of the club was disgusting in my opinion
every other team in this league provides live commentary for their fans
stuff the website, get us on PremiumTV - if thats really the issue, give us overseas chappies commentary. The UK based fan gets all they need from attending the games/reading the press - the website is an irrelevance, i get all i need about Charlton & much, much more from sites like this
we have a fans director - but he hasn't stepped up to the plate on our behalf as far as i can see
oh & by the way it's nothing to do with living abroad/coming back - it's the simple fat that in the 2007/2008 season CAFC might as well not exist in terms of match coverage to anyone outside of the south-east
I think the live commentary/overseas stuff has been done to death on other threads. The fact that we are in the Fizzy has scaled down club exposure at all levels. The further afield you are I guess this has gone from something to nothing. I understood in some countries there is more live premiership football than the UK. Is that true in your experience? Is it right? I still think the Championship rights thing is a stitch up which I dont like but I do think the Club and Fans Director have addressed this issue reasonably and proportionately. Anyway there must be some benefits of where you folks live.
it may well have been done to death, but unless we keep banging away about how ridiculous this situation is - it will be forgotten & if we don't go up this season, how long will overseas CAFC fans continue to be stuck in the dark ages when it comes to match coverage?

i'm sorry if it annoys you or anyone else
It doesn't annoy me.
I'm disappointed in the club's attitude and we need to keep the pressure on to get this changed. If only we had someone on the board who could be relaying this to the directors and fighting our corner.
The club set out its reasons, and the overseas ones have made their frustration clear. What's needed now is both sides to offer something to the other.
The club need to turn around and make clear to the overseas fans, at this stage of the season, the current set up is unfortunate but there is nothing we will be able to do now. If we go up, then the problem goes away. If we don't go up, then they should offer an olive branch to the overseas and say that they will do everything they possibly can to improve on the service and coverage we have seen this season.
In return, the overseas lot should accept that, and not try and drive a bigger wedge between the club and the fans.
poor little dear, are you bored?? tough luck mate, this is an issue that we won't let die
where is the "fans" director on this issue - has it been raised at board level on our behalf??? would be nice to get some feedback
we should be talking to PremiumTV now - i hope we do get promoted, but if not - the talks/planning should be starting now
250,000 born & bred Brits leave the country EVERY year for a new life abroad
pro-rata - this is about 150 - 200 Addicks fans every year - added to the ones already gone - the numbers are not insignificant
and anyway - what the hell has it got to do with you? how does the fact that a load of us are pee-ed off with the lack of coverage & are voicing our concerns affect you in anyway - other than your trainspotter-ish obsession with our website (I read your smarmy blog comments about this)??

Sorry if an article and dozens of e-mails and posts on here explaining the situation and the reasons behind it aren't enough.
The board were given options and voted on them. The current option was the one agreed.
[cite]Posted By: AFKA Bartram[/cite]what is required is a simple compromise.

Fair point AFKA and I'll raise this at the next opportunity. However re-looking at alternatives if we don't go up will not automatically mean that SOME overseas fans will get what they want firstly because the wishes of the overseas fans still need to be weighed against those of all the fans and secondly because not all the overseas fans agree that a Premimum TV deal is the best thing for the club.

Oh well I'm sorry for bringing it up, and I do realise that your position in reality is little more than a token mouthpiece for board decisions. So it is not personal, however I believe Vince (who I voted for) would have been a lot more passionate in fighting our corner on this one.
If we all just laid down & accepted the exalted & oh so important "board decisions" where would we be today.
AFKAs original thread got hijacked by this issue when it was meant to focus on the relationship between Prem and Champ. Another thread has developed which shows the mixed feelings on that issue and has flowed well.
Oakster, what more can Henry do, for crying out loud? How "passionate" do you want him to be? Kidnapping members of the board? Personal abuse won't get you anywhere, either.
It's a tough one, and I don't think the club has explained itself properly, but the reasons for it have been fully explored both here and elsewhere.

I dunno, we could be a well-run outfit like Palace, or Millwall...

.
Not really clear how Vince would have been more passionate (whatever that means) if his position would have also been little more than a token mouthpiece for board decisions.
It does beg the question why, if that is your view of the position and it's not personal, you expect the supporters' director to "step up to the plate?"
As I've said many times is was, IMHO, the right decisions for the vast majority of fans. If someone can show us a way forward that doesn't mean all the London fans paying a fee and us not losing valuable sponsorship income than I'll be delighted to take it to the board
I've been a lurker for a while but this is my first comment on here. I know the internet commentary has been brought up loads but I'm still going to add my tuppence.
I'm also an overseas Addick but have listened to every game online. Unfortunately its by paying for the premium TV option where you get access to all the premium TV commentaries which works out around 5 pounds a month. Thats twice what we'd pay if Charlton were to sign everything over to premium TV but as far as I'm concerned I think the club has made the right decision, at least for this year.
I just think us overseas supporters might have been protesting slightly too much, there is an option to listen to almost every game even if it's the biased opposition commentary and isn't cheap. Hopefully it won't be an issue when we're back in the premiership next year!
Thanks for posting Mwahaha - this is exactly what I've been thinking all along. The dissenters keep banging on about how they'd be prepared to pay and how every other club runs commentary on the premiumtv site - if that's the case then every Charlton game will be covered by a premiumtv site surely? So there's your answer?
I find it baffling that the only alternative these same people can put forward is to the detriment of the vast majority of the fans yet they scream blue murder that the board have decided against it.

But in fairness to the overseas guys, forums like this are much more of a way they can discuss Charlton unlike those who live amongst Charlton fans.

It is frustrating not seeing the Addicks nearly every week, but as you say, our choice.
Looking forward to being back for Wolves, Plymouth and QPR though!
