  • I imagine that Stone was there ..............
  • As you can see from the scoreline there was nothing remotely sad about a team that included Lawrie, Leary and Summers in the attack. It's just a shame that the defense wasn't up to the same standard.

I think we scored something like 96 goals that season, but let in 92. My memory isn't what it used to be though.....
  • i take it Townsend is Andy's dad ?

Seven goals and Leary didn't get on the scoresheet.

    Another bumper crowd....
  • 5 goals for Summers, something he also achieved in the famous 7-6 match.

A tragedy that he died so young, less than two years after this match in fact.

Yes Don Townsend is Andy's dad and played over 200 games for us.
  • I assume Saunders in their team is Ron Saunders who later played for us.
  • This one's well before my time - for once!
  • Didn't Andy Townsend grow up in Welling - and play a season or so at Welling Utd.

yes, went Bexleyheath school. Then worked for Greenwich Council while playing for Welling. Got sold to Weymouth for £13,500, decent money then.
  • played over 100 games for Welling as well.
