daughter just came back from school holiday going round a few european countries,not a stamp in the passport,is that a thing of the past these days,always like looking my old passports and seeing stamps from diffrent contries,is it optional now?

You still need to take the passport but they rarely if ever look at it.

you only get stamped if you travel outside the EU these days
