Did they not use the BBC London guys? I can't see the point of sending two reporters to the match, but then again, they're pissing-away licence fee payers money rather than actually running a business, so who knows what they do?!

Sorry chaps, without the BBC we would be subjected to Big Brother style crap 24 hours a day. Like it or loath it, I would not want it to be commercial.
The BBC's local stations are separate, stand-alone operations, so wouldn't report into Five Live.
I'd imagine the press facilities at Colchester aren't all that and Five Live simply decided to leave it, when few people outside of the south-east would care about a detailed match report (although given Colchester's fine start alone, that sounds like an odd decision.)

I love the BBC. It is an important institution which needs to be protected and nurtured. It is for precisely that reason that I am critical of them. They are awash with dupilcate, sometimes triplicate or more reporting facilities. An example is if you watch/listen to the Prime Ministers monthly press conference. You get questions from
1. Nick Robinson - BBC Political Editor
2. John Piennar - 5 Live Political Correspondant
3. Somebody from Newsnight
4. Somebody from the World at One
5. Somebody from News 24
etc. etc.
Why???????
What about Cricket then. You have TMS with Jonathon Agnew as BBC Cricket Correspondant plus a whole raft of other commentators yet 5 Live have Pat Murphy with Alex Stewart for bulletins?
Why????
So when I hear that BBC Radio London covers a game yet 5 Live do not tap into their offerings for a report, you just have to ask the same question.
Why???
It's a ludicrously profligate organisation, spending our money. So I say hooray for the BBC but somebody needs to get a grip on costs there sharpish otherwise they will spend their way out of existance to be replaced by the ghastly Murdock, the unctious Branson, or that bloke who runs ITV......err Martin Grady or something.....:-)
