  • sorry mate, YES COVERED END
  • Yes and Yes!

And the frontpage of the Kentish Independent with a story about a mother, from Floyd Road, who had just taken the baby out of it's cot when a brick came through her window landing in said cot
  • I think Mick Flannagan's hat-trick may have upset them a tad !
  • i was on my old mans shoulders on east terrace that night, wasn't that the same season it went off mental with the front wheels in the covered end?

Exactly No. 1,not suprised they got a tad upset flash got a hat-traick and we won 4-0.

Chelsea fans got upset after 3-0 which is when all the trouble really strarted with fires, planks of wood were used from a stand, windows being smashed by the old valley club, lots of trouble before and after the game, was pretty scary towards the end, i was in the covered end and it got nasty.
  • I was standing on the East Terrace. I used to stand in the same place and a bloke who stood near us was famous for nipping out for a slash and we'd score. I swear he went three times and each time we scored. At four nil we were shouting "easy easy" and a load of Chelsea came running out of the covered end after us only to be stopped by the old bill.

I remember a headline, I think it was in the mirror something like. "Charlton shoot Chelsea down in flames". It was an awesome game but a little scary.
  • Blimey what a game, was standing on the small bit where the players come out now.
What a sight seeing MF rise up and head the ball in (I think) 3rd goal? any way my mate a cfc fan stood next to me.....priceless look.
  • think it was a pile of programmes they set light too. best ruck i remember in the covered end was against Tottenham when we won 4-1 around about 1980 ish.
  • One of my all time faves. With Chelsea going for promotion, Brian Moore suggested to Ray Wilkins that it might be tricky at The Valley. He replied with great confidence that they'd probably be OK. Even then, there were a handful of kids at school who'd never been to the Bridge but were just attracted by the glamour and older siblings raised on Osgood & Co. Chelsea thoughtfully re-arranged the Valley Club for us but, like Spurs the following season, got a right hiding on the pitch. Those 2 games helped me realise that the nobodies we invested so much faith in really could stuff the "big boys" on any given night.

  • What a night that was, I remember wanting to take my usual place in the Covered End but because of the crowd size and my late arrival, I was forced to stand at the front. It was only when the first goal went in and me and a mate went mad, that we realised that out of the packed stand, only about twenty of us were Charlton.

Got escorted out of the stand by the old Bill and watched the ensuing madness from the relative safety of the East Terrace.

Then was threatened on the way to Woolwich after the game, by a bunch of Chelsea skinheads.

    Happy Days eh!!!!
  • I weren't there but my dad's told me about it many times, said it was crazy!
  • One of the first matches I was allowed to go with my older Cousin and Uncle to - We started off in the Covered end, then beat a hasty retreat.

It was Mental and scared me sh*tless!
  • who also remembers the battles against both sheffield clubs in that era ?
  • what happened ? WAS IT HOME OR AWAY
  • I remember us stuffing Chelsea early 80s maybe 83-84 season? I think on a Saturday or Sunday lunchtime KO For the life of me I cant remember the score possibley 4-1??

I remember sitting in the west stand with loads of Chels around us but we were left alone thank fcuk I was only 10 or 11 at the time!

    Happy Days
  • Are you thinking of the 5-2 game, when Simonsen scored a couple? Ithink it was in the 83-84 season.
