In a slightly bizzare response to two of the threads just listed I have a double whammy to announce.
My first ever match was in 1967 at the Valley for a match against Blackpool. I still remember vividly parts of the day from my dad frog marching me up the hill to catch a 96 bus, to the crowd noise, the view from the front of the Covered End and the collective red and tangerine shirts on view. But it started a catalyst that has since enveloped two further generations and will no doubt continue further.
The observant among you will have noticed that this year I will celebrate my 40th season of watching Charlton and in a twist of fate too spooky for words, the fact that we were relegated and Blackpool were promoted, means that during this anniversary season, Blackpool will once again be our opponents at the Valley.
The match is not till January so it's a few months away from the exact anniversary, but more regrettably, the old man will not be around to witness it. So to commemorate the event and to pay hommage to my Dad, the man that started the Addick dynasty in or household, I am sponsoring the Blackpool match on January the 12th.
Promises to be an emotional day out for all of us.

Out of interest - what do you get for sponsoring the match? - Apart from a hole in the wallet! ;o)

Several holes mate :-)
No it isn't cheap, but I suspect it's a little bit less than it would have been last season, having said that with the timing of everything I don't think money would have been an issue for this.
From memory, you get a couple of car park passes, a champagne reception, a four course meal, executive seating, commemorative badges and programme with your details on it, a gift and a chance to make a presentation to the man of the match. I think you get a player host as well.
Not sure that's all, but it's all I can remember as I don't have the details with me.
That's a nice touch.....good on you. Respects to you and your family.
Just to let you know, we lost 2-1 in the original match! :-(
Thanks everyone.
Hope you can celebrate the day like Im sure your old man would have liked you to!
