METROPOLITAN POLICE WARNING LETTER
the crystal palace VS Charlton Athletic football match will take place at selhurst park stadium on saturday 01st September 2007
The priority of the Police and Crystal palace is to ensure the safety and security of the local community and fans attending this match. I believe that your presence at this football match may compromise safety and pose a threat of disorder, you are advised, in the strongest possible terms, not to travel to Croydon on this day.
If you choose to ignore this advice, you will be liable to arrest if you are seen in circumstances where officers form the opinion that you are likely to participate in violence or disorder.
In addition if you travel to this event, and are subsequently charged with an offence, a copy of this letter will be included in the evidence against you. An Application will then be made against you for a football banning order under the provisions of the football disorder act 200, which will prevent you from attending national and international fixtures in England and Wales, and international fixtures abroad. In certain circumstances we will also ask the court to make an order that you pay our costs of the application, which could be in the region of £2,000.00 - 4,000.00.
I think they would have a difficult time trying to prove that you are "likely to participate in violence or disorder" unless you have a brick in your hand or something daft like that. All they are saying is, if you are involved in any disturbance and you get caught, we can say we warned you when in court. If i got one i would 1. ignore their advice and go 2. keep out of trouble 3. Speak to a solicitor about the letter and 4. speak to someone at Liberty who wont like this restriction of liberty one iota.
palace hater i have a letter waiting for me to sign,i aint been in trouble for over ten yearsstill got one,get yourself down there, the letters are there to put the wind up people, just go to the game mate
I tell you what, if anyone gets caught getting involved in the slightest bit of shenanigens at this one and they will get the book thrown at them - whatever the provocation.
So, if a Palace fan walks across the street and plants one on you, do you:
a) thank him kindly and walk on? or b) send one back, with interest?

If I met someone who had the balls to plant one on you, I'd run a fu**ing mile!!
These letters have nothing to do with our ob , its from palace ob so if anyone does go who has a letter be very careful as there'll pull you for the slightest thing and will likely to have spotters picking you out. i won't be going myself
lthtr - I was also thinking the bleeding obvious; is Croydon the same as selhurst or Norwood? would like to know how this letter satisfies the European Covention of Human rights Act.
what was the reason for it being sent to certain people? been in trouble in the past? surely its best to take the advice and keep out of it. if people keep out of trouble then there would be no need for any kind of letter to be sent?
I hope there is no trouble on saturday, I'm seriously considering going straight to the game and straight home again as i fear either trouble, or large police presence limiting what I can and can't do.

Why the references to "crystal palace" and not Crystal Palace? Or even a mention of Crystal Palace FC?Again the "football disorder act 200", technically the legislation is the "Football (Disorder) Act 2000, not 200.
Also, even a half-wit Met policeman would know that Palace play at Selhurst Park in South Norwood, not Croydon.
Either this is a shoddy piece of typing up that Curb It has C&P-ed, or a poor attempt at a wind up.
its what i am doing suz, i'll drive there park up, burn a couple of fattuns, then take a nice stroll to the shithole. Watch the game trouble free and go back to car and float home! Cant be dealing with getting a train!
Infact, what is the story about whether the ob will keep us in, and what happens when they let us out, will we be able to go where ever or will we get an escort to a train station or something total bollox like that?
there will be no trouble, people who can go go,im not on a ban or ever will be again,so im going, same should apply to anyone whos in the same boat, stop shitting yourself over nothing, its a scare letter, just behave

I'm sure this is getting hyped out of all proportion and that saturdays events will pass off with only minor incidents like most football matches.
However I have it on good authority from carlsberg that ketters quite often wins the piggy back races at training so stick close to him and he can whisk you out of there in no time ;-)
they didn't send me a letter for the play-off game 10/11 years ago.
they just dragged me out of the crowd coming through norwood junction before the game, phtographed me and questioned me then eventually let me go, (i travelled on my own that day). the reason they gave was that i'd had a drink and was limping (there were reports of it going off at london bridge).
the fact that i hadn't had a drink that week because i'd torn my cruciate ligament playing football the previous sunday (why i was limping) counted for nothing.

its not myself that I am worried about behaving.
its sad that grown people have to be told politely when and where to go. but they have proved they can't be trusted in the past.
This reminds me of being at school - "Picardy are coming down today for a fight." An hour later "Picardy and Crown Woods are joining forces and bringing num-chucks to do us in an ambush on the way home. An hour later "NATO are joining in with a tactical air strike as well..."
