Millwall [a] Tickets to go on restricted sale

Have you ever actually watched a game at The Den? Our official capacity, ie the amount of seats in the ground, and our actual capacity, ie the amount of seats we can sell, are two different things. It’s common knowledge. Most Charlton fans would know this.MartinCAFC said:
Average attendance at the toolbox 16,416 vs capacity 20,146 means your ground is only about 80% sold so far this season. Bit of a myth this whole selling out most Saturday games you’ve not sold it out once this season so far?MillwallFan said:
Unless it was a midweek game then you wouldn’t have seen whole areas ‘virtually empty’. We’re selling out most Saturday games this season or coming within a few hundred of doing so. Midweek games, the ground is much less populated.DOUCHER said:I've noticed on tv this season that the main 'gesticulation' (throat slitting, nescafe etc) section at millwall (to our left when we're there) is virtually empty for most games, including the lower bit where bouncy man performs - do they all shift round there from other parts of the ground for certain games or are they characters who only turn up for certain games for a bit of hand action? We only sold out total capacity in the very early days at the New Den. In a couple of cup games v Arsenal and Chelsea. There was some trouble at the Chelsea game and we have left areas vacant ever since. I don’t think we’re even allowed to sell every seat now and haven’t done for nearly 30 years. So a sell out for us is usually around the 18k mark, but the total sell out attendances vary depending on how many the away team are given or sell. Off the top of my head we’ve sold out the home ends this season for weekend games against Wrexham, WBA, Southampton Leicester. The only other Saturday games we’ve had was against Boro, where we almost sold out, and Preston, where it was about a thousand short of a sell out. As mentioned previously, the midweek games aren’t as well attended so they will bring our average attendance down to the 16k mark.1 -

P.s. we were rubbish today. We always seem to struggle against the poorer teams in the league. So you’ve definitely got a chance of beating us this time around 😉4

Yes, been three times. No, didn't know about the amount of seats you can sell being less, maybe you're right most of our fans would know this, I didn't, maybe our fans just aren't into your lot as your fans seem to be with us. Appreciate the explanation though and why. Not sure i'd call a sell out a sell out though unless it was every seat sold barring seats lost to segregation but your post does clear that up.MillwallFan said:

The great man is coming out of retirement and will relive this glorious night.

I don’t know mate. Our biggest gate this season was 18700. I mean we usually have at least a couple of blocks empty in the away end. Not sure if that amounts to 1300 though. We’ve sold out the home ends loads of times over the last 30 years but the attendance hasn’t gone past the 20k mark since those early cup games I mentioned.MartinCAFC said:

I went on their main forum again this morning - the one that sometimes gets over ten posts a day, is not interested in Charlton and is stuffed full of genuine inner-london docker types, and no suburban geeks.
They are banging on about attendances, in a manner I found particularly threatening.
One bloke who is especially not-obsessed with Charlton somehow finding a hard as nails way to convince even me that Millwall’s historical average is higher than Charlton’s; making the killer point that we only won the FA cup because playing on the ‘Kent borders’ we were relative beneficiaries of the second world war (ignoring the fact we finished 2nd, 4th and 3rd in the three seasons preceding, nevermind the proximity of things like Woolwich and the Royal Docks); and we haven't sold out a non-top-flight London derby since the 1950s - glossing over that 1. it’s easy to do with a lower league, low capacity, soulless, generic stadium; and 2. it’s factually incorrect.
But you don't need to be right when you're terrifying.

They seem to be convinced we are going down, despite the fact that when we likely win our game in hand, we’d only be five points behind them.dickad1 said:I went on their main forum again this morning - the one that sometimes gets over ten posts a day, is not interested in Charlton and is stuffed full of genuine inner-london docker types, and no suburban geeks.

The two spanner’s fans I know (yeh, I know, but at least they’re not Palaarse) are far more realistic, expecting us to finish mid-table, and them 7th-9th. Their goal difference reveals the problem they face.0 -
Can anyone tell me how sales are doing please? Hoping for general sale0

I think without all the injuries then we could have given top 6 a real shot. The way things are though, and with a couple of key players suspended as well, I think your mates are right. Top ten but probably missing out on top 6.stonemuse said:
