No Midfield too many defenders

Middlesborough gave us a lesson in football.

They pass the ball from defence through midfield to the strikers.

We are signing too many defenders.

Tuesday night when in possession. the ball was hoofed up to Leaburn, where the opposing team gained the ball back. They had 75% possession , we had 25%.

Some of the players are not up to Championship level.

Campbell is only League 1 level. (knocked off the ball too easily)

Leaburn tries hard. However we must play to his strengths (just like his Dad) When Colin Walsh would deliver perfect crosses to score from headers.

Our defenders are slow and are getting caught again and again.

Our Manager will be in serious danger of the sack, if we keep losing and being outclassed.

We played more midfielders in that match (7) than we did defenders (4)

Plus all our problems stem from the fact we have no defensive cover at the moment. If we’d signed one more left sided defender in the summer things would be looking much healthier

Jones is nowhere near at risk of getting sacked people just having ridiculous expectations, we got outclassed because position for position only Lloyd Jones would get into that Middlesborough lineup. We’ve got a bottom 4 squad, finish in the bottom 3 seasons been disappointing anything above that and Jones has done a good job

I'd agree with that @Crispywood, except to say we have bottom 4 individuals (see wage table for proxy evidence) and a mid table squad (because of Jones).
  • I thought Anderson looked refreshingly good on Tuesday, only one/two touches and managed to pass the ball well (my previous reservations of him is that he’s got great energy but doesn’t know what to do with it). Docherty clearly isn’t up to scratch, slow and requires too many touches at this level.

Definitely need a number 8 to come in in January.

We can all see that without our full team fully at it, the ‘formula’ doesn’t work and man for man we don’t have the quality - however, I think that is testament  to how well NJ has managed to get us playing to a system that works and delivers more than the sum of its parts - stick with it, this was always going to happen at some point - we need the board to step up and bring in the cavalry - when we’re spending more than other teams, then we can start questioning the manager

Maddening to read talk about Jones being sacked on here today, even though it's just from a few posters. We wouldn't even be in this league if it wasn't for him. Who knows, we might even be fighting our way out of L2.

It’s just stupid. Last season we had an injury crisis, results and performances were poor and people called for his head, he made them look silly. Now we have an injury crisis and some people look like they are nearing the same conclusion even though they were proven wrong so recently

But I thought Nathan Jones was happy with his Squad of players hé had brought in this summer. Or that is what he had us believe.

A late challenger for "Thread of the Year", surely.

Our midfield looks really pedestrian at the moment. Coventry is a decent player but I don’t know if he’s athletic enough for his kind of role in a championship side. Anderson, Carey and Apter looks a bit more dynamic.

Perhaps being happy with a squad isn't something that's set in stone. Happiness is something that changes with circumstance. We've been desperately unfortunate to lose Bell, Edwards, Godden and Kelman to long term injuries. If they aren't coming back soon, we need cover for them. That's not a slight on the other players, just a fact.
  • I missed most of the second half. Sky match coverage kept shutting down.

So I never saw any improvement in the second half. Able to see the goal (just)

My opinion is to play Anderson, Docherty and Coventry in midfield. We need to hold more possession.

Docherty and Coventry should be on the pitch together, with Carey behind two strikers.

If Charlton sinks into relegation places, then the pressure will start.

I love Jones the manager. But we are sinking fast.
