Pinched from another thread….
I know it's been done before but this is such an iconic game in our clubs history, that I never tire of hearing about. Dad who is still enjoying his football, was there.
Who else was there that day? Memories!

a mate of mine who unfortunately passed away earlier this year was there. He was also at Wembley for England winning the world cup. He was not one for lying so i believe him, never asked him for tickets stubs.
anyway, he was on his way to leaving after half an hour. Then he heard a faint cheer so he thought to go back. He saw it all after that and when i first met him he didn't half not go on about what he classed as one of the greatest comebacks in the history of not just this club but in the history of football. bored the fuck out of me after awhile. Though what a game to witness.0 -
A few years before I was born but I remember the game well.8

mate no way I'm doubting its the greatest comeback ever in British football but when you weren't there and having someone tell me how remarkable it is it can be a bit grating. mainly cos i wish i was there.Lewis Coaches said:

Used to wind him up by saying whenever he thought that was a really good game/performance it was always yeah but not as good as when old Johnny Summers said I'm sick of our dodgy defence I'm not letting us lose this lot.0 -
Is there any commemoration of those game at the Valley?0

An incredible afternoon as Denis Law scores all six goals as City storm into a 6-2 lead away to Luton Town in the FA Cup. Unfortunately, with 69 minutes on the clock, the torrential rain meant the referee had no option but to abandon the game. Worse still, City lost the re-arranged fixture 3-1 with Law scoring the goal and his incredible feat in the first game was wiped from the records!Lewis Coaches said:

My dad was there - if any more drama is needed, apparently Johnny Summers was dying of cancer when he was scoring the goals0

Well that’s debatable……Johnny died 5.5 years later…..June 62.DOUCHER said:My dad was there - if any more drama is needed, apparently Johnny Summers was dying of cancer when he was scoring the goalsHe died from lymphoma in his neck…..he was a real cockney gent as I remember him.
I was best pals with his son (also Johnny) we were at Catford Boys School school together and he lived just round the corner from me in Catford…..Johnny Jnr still lives in the same house.
As his dad had just died I asked my parents if he could come to San Sebastián with me a month or so later for a stay with my Basque relatives……which we duly did.
Charlton gave the house to Betty Summers as they owned it.
Some years later Betty married Scotsman Alex Jardine…..ex Millwall Captain.0 -
Huddersfield were managed by the wonderful Bill Shankly, and one of the all time greats of football, Denis Law, was injured and sat out the game, but watched it all sitting beside Shankly.
Law mentions it in his autobiography.0 -
I'm very pleased to say I was there.
Hudds had 3 players who played for England Ray Wilson and Bill McGarry at football and central defender Ken Taylor who played in cricket test matches.
McGarry was later manager of Wolves.0
