I was there. As I recall the fireworks were on the East Terrace…but I could have this wrong.0

I was there.
I think I went to about 34 or 35 games that season0 -
A season ticket holder and never missing a match I would have been there but can’t remember anything specific about that particular match. Hales and Flanagan scoring, nothing special about that, they scored every week, or at the very least we always expected that they would. I wasn’t keen on the Friday night games, it meant getting to the pub late for a Friday night out and then not having a game on the Saturday.0

No, but I was at Luton on the Saturday. A goal each from "Smash n Grab" for Rovers couldn't prevent a Luton win. European Cup winner with Man Utd, John Aston with one and League winner with Everton, Jimmy Husband, with another.0

I was there with my Dad. I was 11. Loved the valley nights back then.0
-
Yep, there with my dad. I think the fireworks put a few on the gate hat night.0

Count me in.0

I missed that one. I was at boarding school in Blackheath and could only get out for the Saturday matches!0

I never missed a home game in those days, I had an ST. Got a good (some would say sad) memory of many past games.
But I have no recollection of this match at all.0 -
I was there. Went to most home games that season with a bloke over the road from Eltham. I was 10. Didn’t go on my own until the Tottenham FA Cup game the next year.0

That’s where I would have been. I was in the programme that season in an action shot of paddy. Couldn’t miss me with the massive scarf my mum had knitted for me my blond hair and national health glasses.Ashers said:Yes, I was there stood against the red railings at the front of the east terrace with my Dad.1 -
Just realised that this was probably one of the last games I went to at the Valley for a long time because not long after my dad moved us all oop north.

Yes, some famous scorers all the way down that list.
Blackpool was an odd one. They nearly got promotion that season and then in 1977/78 they were cruising along very well, spanked us 5-1 and then Blackburn 5-2. But they won only one more game in their last 16.
Yet with six games to go the Seasiders were still eighth, nine points off relegation. Only two points for a win back then of course. On 25 April, with one game to go, Blackpool were 14th, three points above Cardiff in the third relegation spot. Four days later, Blackpool finished the season with a 2-1 defeat at Brighton, meaning they were 16th with 37 points – two clear of Orient in 20th, with a superior goal difference.
Incredibly, with three games remaining in the league, there were 27 possible outcomes and only one of them (Cardiff beating Notts County, Orient drawing with Charlton and Orient beating Cardiff) would result in Blackpool’s relegation. And that's what happened. Blackpool went down with 37 points - a record number for a relegated side under the old two points per win arrangement. This was the first time they would feature in the old Third Division.
That was, of course, the season we decided to loan Flanagan and Powell to the New England Teamen before the season had finished and we ended up in 17th place on 38 points. Only one ahead of Blackpool with an inferior goal difference.0 -
Even stranger seeing George Best playing for us a bit later.Rob said:It seems strange seeing George Best scoring for Fulham.0 -

Ditto. Incidentally, my CAST Killer "Che Guevara" remains unbeaten after more than a season of home matches (was not worn for any defeats)0 -
Was there.
Aside from George Best, some other stand out names...Ted Macdougall, Peter Withe, and also Chelsea playing in 2nd tier away at Hereford !0 -
Yep I was was there took my now wife on a romanic night out - Antigallican & The Valley, I certainly knew how to look after her!! Friday Night games at the Valley were fantastic.2

Funny how some things stick in your mind/memory.....the floodlights were off due to the fireworks. I said to my mate that there will be quite a few PA supporters on the South Terrace....the lights went on....doubt if there was more then 200 there.0

There were calls for killer to be called up for england v italy soon after this match0
