MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton Athletic vs Swansea City - Saturday 1st November 2025 - 3pm Kick-Off

Charlton Athletic vs Swansea City
Saturday 1st November 2025 - 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Jason Bourne

Introduction
A week can feel like eternity in Football, especially when you factor in that the Addicks haven't had a midweek game. Its meant that Nathan Jones has had the opportunity to spend a bit more time on the training ground, and after three gruelling games, yielding an impressive seven points, it means that we go into this Saturday a bit fresher... All well and good really, seeing that we're set to play another three games over the course of the next week.

Nobody ever said that the Championship was "easy"

The Opposition
Name: Swansea City - Manager: Alan Sheehan
Ground: The Liberty Stadium
Previous League Result: Swansea 2-1 Norwich

This coming Saturday will see a rare match being held at the Valley, and given the fixture list in October, I hope the players know where they're going.

Joining us in South East London, will be Swansea City, who'll be making the long trip along the M4, and across the Severn Bridge, and visit the Capital this weekend having made a bit of an "indifferent" start to their 2024/25 campaign - They find themselves in 13th, and with a 3-0 win, would jump above the Addicks, but that is the nature of how tight this Division is. The Swans come into this fixture having just been beaten by Manchester City in the League Cup (First Team players were rested, who would do that for a Cup competition baffles me), whilst they were victorious last time out in the league, against struggling Norwich City.

Enough about the Tale of Three Cities though, and thankfully Swansea come into this fixture having failed to win back to back League games all season, oh dear, that'll put the cat amongst the pigeons - Their two other victories on the road this season came at Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday, whilst they've also faced defeat at both Middlesbrough and Birmingham City.

Alan Sheehan in the box seat, will be a familiar figure amongst the Charlton team, he was part of the Luton team to win back to back promotions to the Championship as a player... and upon retirement returned to Luton as First-Team Coach under our very own Nathan Jones, their paths went on different directions after Jones was sacked from his post at Southampton, yet as mentioned this week; Sheehan's career path is something similar we could see from our own Danny Hylton in the future.

Charlton Team News
Its on to the fun game of trying to work out who'll be in and amongst the starting eleven for Charlton this coming Saturday.

There will no doubt be the usual; Ramsay vs Burke question marks in defence. On the other hand Rob Apter made a rare start against Hull City last week, yet given he was replaced so soon after the hosts scored, I'd be surprised if we don't see James Bree back in the starting eleven - Elsewhere and you suspect that Conor Coventry will return to the Midfield having been rested from the start in Yorkshire, whilst Luke Berry, despite rescuing a point last Saturday, will no doubt have to settle for a place on the bench.

Once again the focus will be on the Strikers starting, with Nathan Jones no doubt picking the pairing that can do the most damage for Charlton across the entirety of the pitch, and not just within the opposition penalty area that some appear fixated with at present.

Kaminski
Ramsay - Jones - Gillesphey
Bree - Coventry - Docherty - Bell
Carey
Kelman - Campbell

Substitutes: Mannion - Burke - Apter - Costello - Knibbs - Hernandez - Berry - Olaofe - Leaburn

Can already predict the Swans fans saying how bad we are. They’re going to have 60% of the ball and get nowhere with it. We’ll have some good counters and score from one of them. 1-0 Addicks

Sounds right although I prefer Campbell to come on for the last half hour against tiring defenders

Might be a pretty tight affair this one... Swansea have scored two goals less than us, but they've only conceded two more than us - As a team in the Play-Offs, and at home, you'd hope that we'd win this one, even if it comes to the point where we need to start looking over our shoulders - But can equally see a draw.

Small stat, showing that Charlton and Swansea are two of the top three sides, to have spent the most time drawing each game... Understandable as well though, seeing that we were 0-0 with Watford / Sheff Utd till so late

Another opportunity to continue the great start. No games are easy. No room for complacency. Think it will be close. Going for a 1-0. UTA.

Great preview again @ForeverAddickted...but "indifferent" start to their 2024/25 campaign?

We played a number of games last season even though we were promoted, where there were players on the bench I was hoping wouldn't be required on the pitch.  What a difference this season.  All of those players bring something to our team and the majority could consider themselves unlucky to be on the bench.

Yeah... Did it deliberately that one...  :# - Might even turn it into a running thing now, seeing I keep making that mistake, but then I'd probably accidentally start getting the bloody dates right :D

Heart is ruling the head again, 2-0 head says squeeze 1-0.
Swans are blowing hot and cold, if we win this one I will start looking up at the table and stating to dream a little dream.

1-0 Charlton. Could be any of them to score. I'll pick a random name and go Doc from distance

3 game week so I think we see these 3 combinations starting the 3 games again

    Kelman TC
    Kelman Olaofe
    Leaburn TC

No idea which order. I think TC generally plays better at The Valley than he does in away games, so I’d go with the 2 TC combinations at home and then Kelman Olaofe starting at Wrexham

Over to see this match, so I’m hoping for a rip-roaring match and a runaway 2-0 win!

Jones said recently that he doesnt expect to see him back until after the International Break (which is the week after next) - So the Southampton game possibly for him

What does it mean @ForeverAddickted ... It's made me go cross-eyed.

  • Looking forward to a 2-0 Addicks victory.
TC and Kelman to start again but neither will score! But never mind - they make space for others to do their job......

Another massive game in terms of maintaining our tremendous start to the season. Have we flattered to deceive so far ? is this week the start of the expected decline (in the view of us scarred fans) or do we continue to suprise the rest of the league ?

In NJ I trust........... 2-1 to the mighty Reds

We are entering a run of games that are very difficult to predict if you look at next 3 Swansea, West Brom and Wrexham they could be all draws very close games .

Swansea have a very strange season so far and would hope home advantage would give us that edge ..team news go back to our normal back 5 and midfield and hopefully we will see Olaofe and Kelman back together up top …. Prediction 1-1 ….. think it’s a game we could win but just as easy lose given how unpredictable Swansea have been this season

I would like to see Miles and CK start with TC & Tanto come on for @ 60 mins
I feel that CK luck will turn soon maybe he will hit the net in next 3 in 7 days matches, he deserves a goal for all his hard work. I'm assuming that NJ will want to mix things up and hopefully Matt Goldan will get some minutes  either midweek or next Sat from the subs bench, having him return is as positive as Miles when he rtn'd to the 1st team..... both high impact strikers.
Never predict results, just looking fwd to 2 matches in 4 days at The Valley. COYA's

    • Charlton Athletic have won just one of their last nine league games against Swansea City (D2 L6), with this the first meeting between the sides since a 1-0 victory for the Swans in January 2020.
    • Swansea City have won two of their last four away league games against Charlton Athletic (D1 L1), as many victories as across their first 18 away trips to the London outfit (D5 L11).
    • Charlton have lost just one of their last 20 home league games (W15 D4), averaging 1.8 goals per game during that time.
    • Swansea remain the only team yet to score from a set-piece (excluding penalties) in the 2025-26 Championship campaign, while only Coventry City (11) and Oxford United (10) have scored more such goals than Charlton Athletic (7).
    • Only Birmingham City (6) have won more points from goals scored in the 90th minute or later than Charlton Athletic (5) in the Championship so far this season, with the Addicks earning a point against Hull last time out in the 91st minute.
