Eh up England v Australia Rugby League Ashes
First of three tests today against the Aussies at Wembley. Half 2 KO.
Haven't played them in an Ashes series since 2003 I believe. Haven't beat them since 1970 meaning we haven't beaten them in the last 13 attempts. Pretty one sided. Probably why the Aussies like rugby league so much as they rarely lose and we all know from cricket they really don't like losing.
Shaun Wane (another slight tenuous link to cricket if you like) head coach for England already has said we are very much underdogs.
Majority of the talk is how we need to hurt them physically to have a chance. So it could get a tad tasty.
Hopefully those today in the Hull crowd will wish they stayed at home to watch this than the mauling Charlton will be doing to their football side.

They I guess had to play one game in London just surprised it wasn't at Twickenham. The other two games are at Everton's new ground and Headingley Leeds both sold out.0

No way they would have played a league game at union Twickenham.Karim_myBagheri said:They I guess had to play one game in London just surprised it wasn't at Twickenham. The other two games are at Everton's new ground and Headingley Leeds both sold out.
League love Wembley (Challenge Cup) was only ever going to be there.
Can only see the usual whitewash I’m afraid.3 -
ah of course the challenge cup. Makes sense now.
Plus of course the league and union rivalry0 -
Not suggesting it would help us much against Australia but a lions type team (which is was) GB and Ireland could possibly give them more of a go.

Had a chance there. Hopefully I will get a stream sorted for the hull game because I can't deal with these commentators much longer. It's almost as if they're commentating on their own sons.0

Do they really play much rugby league in Ireland?Karim_myBagheri said:Not suggesting it would help us much against Australia but a lions type team (which is was) GB and Ireland could possibly give them more of a go.0 -

England losing 8-0 at half time.0

Had a couple of chances. I think one should of been taken, the first chance. We had them with limited cover but slow play and a sloppy pass messed it up. The other was a kick which had to be precise but just over ran.
Anyway finally got the hull game on though no sound but tbh after hearing the commentators on BBC maybe not such a bad thing.

Not a league fan, but quite mad how in the 90’s Aussie League player Mal Meninga won Overseas Sports Personality of the year award here.0

Used to be followed much more when it was on terrestrial tele more often.MrOneLung said:Not a league fan, but quite mad how in the 90’s Aussie League player Mal Meninga won Overseas Sports Personality of the year award here.
All sorts of nonsense since has seen a massive decline in interest.
I’m being forced to watch it now the comms keeps cutting out.
Dom Young the only one near the Aussies imho……….sad.1 -
So much stronger. Just can paw off our players.0

20-0 to Australia now less than 15 minutes to play.0
-
26-0 less than 8 minutes to go.
England had a disallowed try and Australia were given a penalty. Not familiar enough with League these days to know why.0 -
I'm at a loss but not surprised.
Warne has picked a team of names. Haven't played together in ages. The English based players some who haven’t had their best season.
We are still nowhere near good enough to lay a glove on the Aussies.0 -
Consolation try for Enland.24-6.0

Inevitable, which they all knew it would be. Had wane on before saying we're the underdogs but we'll give it a go. Losers mentality. Plus the squad selection is odd. Smith should be there for example. Wouldn't of changed anything.
this series could and possibly will be humiliating but still think it's a good thing to have and play more often. We need to play against the best so we know where we are but we also need to grow the game more in this country and also play some of the other nations more regularly.
However the ineptitude of those in the high reaches of this sport shows no bounds. Look at the state of how they have been dealing with the league/superleague. More views on tik tok is what they prefere. And chasing easy money from sky plus other issues.1 -
I'm no Jake O'Connor fan but he's just had the season of his life & was Man of Steel. Didn't even make the squad.
Says all you need to know.
Pathetic.2 -
My son & I went to Wembley today. England were outclassed. The Kangaroos defensive structure was compact and disciplined. They forced a number of errors and were clinical in attacking play. They could have scored a lot more points on turnovers.Australia have a world class spine, with Harry Grant at hooker, Nathan Cleary and Cameron Munster in the halves and Reese Walsh at Full Back. Add Isaah Yeo & Tino Faasumaleaui in the forwards to that quartet and you have six players who would be in any World team. England have one world class player in Herbie Farnworth in the centres. That’s a big gulf in class that England will need to bridge in the second test. I don’t think they can.0

Don’t know much about Rugby League but a friend got me a ticket for next week’s match at Everton. First visit to the HD Stadium, looking forward to it.1
