MATCH THREAD : Ipswich Town V Charlton Athletic :Tuesday 21st October 2025 : KO 19:45
Good evening one and all, and welcome to tonight's Match Thread…
So, tonight it's a trip up the A12, (not a great road it must be said from personal experience), and a meeting with Ipswich Town at Portman Road, a match which it seems is causing some of us a bit of concern, but we go there in good spirits, and with an equal results stats in our last six matches, so a positive result could well be on our way, we head to Suffolk on the back of a hard fought 2-1 victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, courtesy of first-half goals from Sonny Carey and Reece Burke.
Ipswich sit in 12th spot, three places and two points behind us, with a game in hand it must be said, and have won each of their last three home fixtures,
Will Mannion returned to the matchday squad last weekend, though Josh and Matty remain unavailable, the hosts will be without the injured Conor Townsend and Wes Burns, while Azor Matusiwa is suspended having collected five yellow cards.
We've clashed on 58 previous occasions, winning 20, Ipswich, 25 and the remaining 13 meetings ending all square, we last met just three months ago in a pre-season friendly where Ipswich ran out 2-1 victors, but that was just a friendly…
We will be wearing our red home kit in Suffolk…so COYR
Team news…
Tanto Olaofe will make his first league start for the Addicks in tonight's game against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
The striker comes into the starting XI as Nathan Jones makes two changes, with Kayne Ramsay returning to the starting line-up as Tyreece Campbell and Reece Burke move to the bench.
Ramsay joins Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
James Bree and Amari'i Bell are expected to start as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Sonny Carey and skipper Greg Docherty making up a three-man midfield. Olaofe starts up front alongside Charlie Kelman.
Burke and Campbell are joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Joe Rankin-Costello, Luke Berry, Harvey Knibbs, Onel Hernández, Rob Apter and Miles Leaburn.
Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Bree, Coventry, Carey, Docherty (c), Bell; Kelman, Olaofe
Subs: Mannion, Burke, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Knibbs, Hernández, Apter, Campbell, Leaburn

Welcome to Ipswich, a grim and dreary place where the sun never rises and hope is turned away at the town boundary. In other words the total opposite of life in the northern part of East Anglia. 😉
It may have been a trip up the A12 for the majority of you but I've had the joy of the A47 Norwich Southern Bypass followed by the A140. A journey half the distance of my normal trip to The Valley but took almost as long. I think we managed to rack up almost 15 miles of dual carriageway in the 70+ mile journey. Wonderful.
Anyway, it's been raining for about 30 mins but it's now easing off and should be dry for the rest of the evening.
It's good to be able to say:
Come on you REDS!!

Good changes I think4

Finally get to see how Olaofe and Kelman work together
Third time we've gone for something different to Campbell / Kelman so far this season (Leicester and QPR...)

Time for us to lose for all the TC fanboys to have some further ammunition.
He looked tired at the weekend so don't hate the decision.3 -
Finally tanto kelman time2

Happy with the rotation. Perhaps a rest for Bell, but we are a bit limited in that region at present.
Would like to see Karoy make the bench for balance soon, as I can't ever imagine that we will need to use our 6 attacking players.

Is he injured or just out of favour?mendonca said:Happy with the rotation.

Out of favour but think that’s a harsh way to describe it when he’s got 6 good options ahead of him in the pecking orderTheHerminator said:

Just don't see the sense having Berry there ahead of Anderson but hey ho. Glad to see Tanto get a chance7

Looking forward to Tanto and Kelman but also to TC and Leaburn, some height for TC to aim at2

Agreed. Our bench seems slightly light on defensive players, it's hard to imagine Knibbs, Berry and Hernandez all being usedmendonca said:Happy with the rotation.

If we score it’ll be Tanto, TC or Hernandez - fuel for supporters of the first two, drama in the ground if the latter.

Yea fair, out of favour isn’t the right terminology. That’s kind of why I was asking as I think he’s unlucky not to be involvedCrispywood said:

0-2 Tanto and Kelman...👍3

A few of us have called for it, so let's see if the Tanto/Kelman collaboration can pay off, or let's see if Jones has been right the past 10 games in not playing them together1
-
Pleased Tanto gets a start. It'll be interesting how he and Kelman work together0

Cracking lineup - my prayers are answered - TC finally dropped and Olaofe actually given a chance. My hopes of a win have gone up considerably now - as a striker might actually score!2
-
Also Karoy not out of favour, but young and with Coventry (not a direct replacement), Docherty (in form and captain), Carey (in form and more attacking), Berry (more attacking and more experienced), Rankin-Costello (more versatile) and Knibbs (more experienced) in front of him1

Will be interesting to see how it goes with Kelman and Tanto.3

Like that team alot... fancy 1-1 and would take that1
