    This.
The big pub directly opposite the station is decent - we get the train from Crewe and change at Chester and that’s where we will be from 11’ish. Mrs M will give the three of us a lift to Crewe so no driving to do 😃

Chester if you have plenty of time.
The better boozers are about 15 mins from Chester station.
The Spoons near the station looked unattractive, as did the clientelle outside.

You are the last person who I thought would come out with something like this.
You're beginning to sound like @Radostanradical

There's one or two Spoons I'd rather avoid and that was one of them (looking from the outside).

It's ok for a football drink - I wouldn't choose to use it for anything else! Besides, when I walk in the measure of the clientele takes a nose dive!

The Turf outside the ground does not have any snobbery.

Heading back over to Ireland, might go by car / ferry and include this.
Decided not to, as the game would finish around 5pm, next ferry from Holyhead at 2:30am. As I ticked the ground off last season, had I not definitely would have regard of the waiting time for ferry. However now going on the Friday,I going to the FAI cup final on Sunday between Shamrock Rovers & Cork City.

Recently renovated but still some good pubs 10 minutes walk away.

    Old Harkers arms
    cellar-your more real ale/variety beers
The duck and dagger (not been, new but heard good things)
these 3 are 10 minute walk from the station or less down city road but expect to pay £7 a pint

Chester station tap room if you really don’t want to walk is at the station which is similar to cellar bar but cellar bar will show the football.

However, I’ll be in town crier pre-game as it’s a little cheaper and will have the early kick off on.

    Sure it's well deserved!  ;-)
