    Tell him it was you that bought the car, you've found a scratch somewhere else and you want, say, £400-£600 off the price you paid. Then, very generosity offer to call it quits.

    Dont see any moral dillema at all. You offered to pay for damage and he didnt get back to you.

    Tell him you’ll pay him what he wants in cash, you will meet him, tell him to bring the car and you’ll bring a Monday to get your money worth.
