Apologies if this has been posted before. I'm sure it has been discussed. Championship wages ranked. SPOILER ALERT: We're bottom.

Can't post the clickable link sorry!

Feel like we have this discussion every 6 months or so. All of this is guesswork, no one knows our current wage bill and no one knows last years wage bill yet either. Can only wait for the accounts and see
  • I’m sure we are probably in the bottom area of the division for wages but this list doesn’t seem accurate at all. As with a lot of FLW articles it’s just nonsense to drive clicks

Wage Bills are certainly known at Board level at all clubs I believe. @bobmunro might be able to clarify.

Board level is very different to us knowing

Fairly common knowledge we are bottom or near bottom just by process of elimination alone.

Our wage bill is almost certainly lower than: Coventry, Leicester, Boro, Preston, Stoke, QPR, Millwall, West Brom, Bristol City, Watford, Swansea, Birmingham, Southampton, Wrexham, Norwich, Derby, and Sheffield United.

That leves just 6 clubs including ourselves, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Oxford, Hull, and Sheffield Wednesday.

Can probably put Wednesday near the bottom? As they don't even pay their players, Blackburn and Hull will likely pay more when you consider their longevity, Portsmouth a whole 2 years ahead of us financially, as are Oxford.

We are doing well considering we are in the bottom 6 for wages in a best case scenario. It is imperative we stay up so we can build and gradually increase our squad value 👍🏻

Of course they are known - and I can't imagine there is a board of any company, however big or small, that doesn't know their wage bill! Relatively junior members of staff will also know the wage bill - especially for accounting and payroll purposes.

All of that is confidential information and to be frank it's got nothing to do with anyone outside the organisation. In terms of player wages, that's between the club, the player and his agent and any so-called assessment and ranking of clubs is not a great deal more than guesswork, but it's pretty obvious that some clubs - Birmingham, Wrexham, the three relegated from the Prem clubs and a few others will be top end, and the promoted clubs not bankrolled by Hollywood are likely to be towards the bottom.

  • Excluding transfer fees we must be close to breaking even given the size of our wage bill, the extra money for being in the Championship and regular 20k+ crowds.

Its true that FLW is often not positive click bait

Based on Methvens comments on the fan forum last Christmas we were projected a 9M loss last season (24/25). The new TV revenue is 9M extra but I seriously doubt an extra couple thousand people is covering the costs of all the staff/player promotion clauses, the wages of new players + addition staff like security/bar staff etc. we will definitely have the 3rd-6th lowest wage budget this season but I very much doubt we’re looking at break even
