Countdown To Safety - 2025 - 2026

4 points in the last 3 matches this week, not a bad total.

But 2nd half against Derby, and also against Preston thought we looked leggy.

Are we about where we’d want to be after 9 games?

I didn't expect to be in the bottom three after 9 games, but also didn't expect to only be 3 points off play offs.

Nathan Jones said before the season started that Charlton would be competitive this season.
I believe we will finish somewhere around mid table and that would be an excellent achievement for our first season back in the championship.

No forwards who can score in this division, Godden possibly out until Xmas.

The defence can't always be strong. Worried. Need to beat Wednesday in a couple of weeks.

Just hoping we reach fifty points and relax,  until then it's going to be tough but far better than league one.

I’d definitely take that. Thought we’d be relegated before the start of the season, still a decent chance with that (especially with our strikers) but I don’t think it’s the most likely outcome anymore.

It is better than I expected, but still not changing my opinion of finishing between 17th-21st.
Survival will be by the skin of our teeth.
In all of our games so far we have never truly been in control of the match. We struggle to hold or keep the ball for any length of time.

We're higher than 21st so YES!!!

Nothing has really changed from last season either, the opposition is tougher, but we've shown from all games at the Valley this season that we're going to be tough to beat there... and games at the Valley is where we'll survive... Away from home, and again like last season, we just don't have the same presence about us.

    13-wins / 11-draws or 10-wins / 20-draws got Derby (19th) and Preston (20th) 50-pts last season...

    To equal that we need 10-wins / 8-draws or 7-wins / 17-draws.

It's countdown to midtable mediocrity for me.

Our defending gives us a chance in most games, I think we'll be fine even if we do go through periods where we start to worry.

We don't need a 20 goal striker to compete at this level. No Championship club had one last season. We'll nick goals to get the results we need across the pitch.

Might not need a 20 goal striker, but have a striker who can / will score more than 6 might help.

The recovery from the surgery in the summer is taking a lot, lot longer than expected.

That could still easily happen with 37 games to play, and if they score 7 that could mean 30 games in which they don’t score.

Godden only scored 2 in his first 8 games for us.

Still expecting us to finish between 7th and 14th. We have started well, last two games have been disappointing but absolutely no need to panic. We will be fine.

I'm confident we will have two forwards each with 6+ goals by end of season. No idea which two that'll be, but certain it will happen.

Sub Tanto will score 5 in the 30 minutes he's on the pitch v Sheff Weds.

That'll give him 6 goals so far.

August, September and October, had / have 4 league matches each month = 12 matches.

The next 3 months, November, December and January, currently have 6 league matches each month = 18 matches.

That to me, is when things really ramp up, and could make or break our season, if injuries mount up.

We’ll have played 30 matches by the end of January, and it’s quite conceivable they we’ll play 3 games in a week, and not pick up any points.

We’ve just got to bounce back, if we get backs, adapt, and stick together.

I hope we can have a reset, and  work on stuff during the international break, and come out fighting on the 18th of October, against Sheffield Wednesday.

Worth noting that every season this decade that Charlton have been in the top half of the season at this stage, we've been promoted.

Shame we’re not in the top half I guess
