MATCH THREAD : Queens Park Rangers V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 30th August 2025 :KO 12:30pm

Hi everybody, and welcome to todays Match Thread...

Today we travel across to the West side of town for a London Derby with QPR at Loftus Rd, a ground i've frequented a couple of times and found it shall we say, not great, mind you going back a few years now anyway, the game today should be another entertaining fixture against a side currently sitting 22nd in the table on a single point after one draw and two defeats in their first three matches, and will feel they are in a false position, looking to get their first win and move in the right direction, so mustn't be taken lightly.
Now we all know that Nathan will be seething from last week's defeat to Leicester and will have the lads fired up for this one, and hopefully they have been working on finishing, because one thing last week we didn't lack was creating chances, and I expect us to be well up for today and the chance to put to bed that match with a result today, maybe a goal from Kelman on his return, now that would be good
Speaking ahead of today's fixture, Jones confirmed that Reece Burke was sidelined in the midweek due to not being risked, and the defender’s return is imminent, Godden is still sidelined unfortunately, but apart from that we have everyone ready to go...

HEAD-TO-HEAD

We've gone toe-to-toe on 71 previous occasions, with the Addicks winning 25, Rangers 23 and the remaining 23 encounters resulting in draws, so pretty even it looks on paper, our last outing against them saw us progress in the Carabao Cup in a penalty shootout at The Valley back in August 2022.

We will be sporting our red home kit this weekend, and quite right, so that will hopefully be a good omen...

Anyway, here we go...COYR, let's get this job done in style today

Team news...

Nathen Jones has named an unchanged starting lineup for this afternoon’s match from the side that lined up against Leicester City in the league last weekend.

Meanwhile Reece Burke is named in the Charlton squad for the first time since joining the Addicks in the summer, as he takes a place on the substitutes' bench.

It means Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’I Bell will once again make up a back three in front of goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

Rob Apter and Josh Edwards will operate as wing backs with Sonny Carey, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty in midfield.

Academy starlets Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell will once again start up front.

The bench is made up of Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Macaulay Gillesphey, Burke, Ibrahim Fullah, Joe Rankin-Costello, Harvey Knibbs, Alan Mwamba, Tanto Olaofe, Charlie Kelman

Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Apter, Coventry, Carey, Docherty (c), Edwards; Leaburn, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Gillesphey, Burke, Fullah, Rankin-Costello, Knibbs, Mwamba, Olaofe, Kelman

  • UTA!!!
  • Big game today -

A win and we will start looking upward again -

The nerves are there - if we press like we did against Leicester, if we play anything like we did with some better decision making, we will win comfortably in my humble.

We need to ride the first 12 minutes and then they will run out of steam - one good break and a goal for us will take the wind out of the fans.

This is a good test for Jones here.

    Come on you ADDICKS!!!
  • Seems that Anderson is indeed suspended
  • No changes from last saturday. Good to see Burke makes the bench.
  • Maynard-Brewer instead of Mannion

  • Is that the Smyth that was thoroughly underwhelming for us
  • Another phenominal bench, bet Kelman will be chomping on the bit waiting to get on today and give Rangers a bloody nose...

It is, can’t imagine him having a fun game
  • Jones has emptied his pocket, ready to pop Kone in later...
  • If you're watching on Sky, I would recommend opening up the audio on CATV and mute the Sky commentary, Sky are useless on comms...imo
Won't there be issues synching the sound.
  • Mbengue we were strongly linked with - so I wonder how he’ll do. Kone we know well but he’s v dangerous on his day.

Yeah, Jones said he was rested as a precaution against Cambridge...

Shouldn't be if watching on a laptop or PC, just open up CATV audio and have the sound running while watching Sky with the sound muted, I am on Windows...
  • Come on boys. Big one today

Tried at wing back by Bowyer wasn't he? Didn't go well.
  • Or watch Charlton TV from Madrid with Terry, Greg and Brownie.

He looked good for them last season.
  • 1-0 fullah from the bench
  • Fullah of the bench hmmm - might be worth a punt that

QPR sold Smyth then brought him back. I would have been happy if we had signed him permanently,  instead of wasting money on DJ and Kirk.
  • Wakey wakey Mods...12.30 KO you know...🤷‍♂️
