EFL kit change rules

For those speculating that Charlton could play in red and black at QPR:

EFL Regulation 39.1 stipulates:

"During the Close Season, each Club shall notify The League in writing details of its ‘home’ and ‘away’ kit (shirt, shorts and socks) and if applicable any ‘third’ set of kit. Each set of kit registered must differ visibly from and contrast with each other kit registered by the Club in that Season. No changes either in the kit or combination of colours of kits shall be permitted during the course of the Season."

This wasn’t the case in years gone by, which is why we have been able to play in red and black numerous times.

  • So that likely means the third kit gets an outing at QPR and Blackburn just off the top of my head

A weird rule. Do the PL have a similar rule also, as Man U for example always played in red and black when away at City?
  • I thought that colour clashes only occur with the shirt and socks, not shorts, so we could play in red and white at QPR.

Also against Southampton, Sheffield United and Stoke, as even though the blue stands out quite a bit I can't see them allowing it Vs a red and white striped team. Watford away may also end up being us in black to have a bigger contrast than the white will create

Correct as far as the international football authorities are concerned, but not within EFL competition rules.
  • Ah no - I love it when we get to play in red shirts with black shorts every once in a while. Looks like it’ll never happen again unless this silly rule is repealed 😢
  • What is the problem with red shirts and white shorts at QPR?

Is it because the white tops and shorts clash? That will be a problem for qpr and not us when their centre forward is Jones’s pocket for 90 mins
  • Daft rule but not surprising with the EFL
  • I can understand the “no changes to kit” Rule, as it stops the lights of manure milking their supporters for even more money, but the “no change in combination of parts” just seems silly and pointless

God forbid they wear it at Millwall, we will get slaughtered

Get down to the Valley on 7th September and you'll see the players in red shirts and black shorts.
  • I recall seeing Celtic v Hibs and both teams wearing the home top.

  • Can I not be the first to say that the EFL are arseholes.

    I'm being serious mate.
  • I now fully understand why the points deduction for Sheffield Wednesday hasn’t been announced. The EFL have been very busy sorting out the complete mess that clubs kits were.
  • What was that game years back (Prem days I think) when the kit man forgot to bring the shorts away so they had to rush to JD and buy replacements? Wonder what would happen if that ever occurred again.

Best example of this recently was Arsenal Women forgetting their socks and having to buy Chelsea ones from the club shop

  • Maybe we should play in the home teams second strip like we did at Palace many years ago.

Thought they changed the short rule a couple of seasons back. Doesn't matter if they clash? I remember us inexplicable wearing black shorts at Sheffield Weds when they also had black ones? Either way its a 1st world problem.

Oh. Misread the original post! Seems a bit silly tbh. Although I spose out white shorts would cause an issue against QPRs shorts/socks.
  • Surely the rule should begin and end at the kit not clashing as far as the EFL is concerened.
  • Everton wore blue shorts at Leeds last night, so not a problem in the PL.
  • Barnet wore their black home shorts with their white/purple away top last night, should have had white shorts. They couldn't wear the away white shorts because Swindon wore white shorts - But I suspect they had no choice but to wear the black home shorts. seems a stupid new rule
  • I fully agree with the EFL. I literally couldn't see the wood for the trees at this one.

Away to West Brom we wore their shorts live on TV

I'm surprised they found a pair of WBA shorts big enough to fit Andy Reid
