MATCH THREAD : Bristol City V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 16th August 2025 : KO 15:00

Good afternoon fellow Addicks...

Today we have our first away day of The Championship season, with a reasonably long trip down West to Ashton Gate where Bristol City await, they are currently sitting, for what it's worth, as league leaders after their first match of the season away at Sheff United resulted in a 1-4 victory, but as we all know, league tables mean nothing this early in the season...unless we were top of course...😉
I feel we will be taking a good vocal support today, and will be giving them more of a game than it looks like Sheff United did, and feel we are more than capable of travelling back up the M4 with at the very least a point on the board, whilst we all hope for the three of course...🤞

The Addicks will be without Reece Burke and Matty Godden again this weekend, whist Joe Williams could return for the hosts, though Max O'Leary, Luke McNally and Cameron Pring are absentees.

We have gone toe-to-toe on 63 previous occasions winning 32, the Robins 19 and the remaining 12 clashes ending all square, the last meeting between us came at The Valley on Boxing Day in 2019, when we ran out 3-2 victors.

The Addicks will be wearing their new white and blue away kit in Bristol...

So, here we go

Team..

Nathan Jones has named an unchanged side from the last league outing for, following last weekend's season-opening victory over Watford at The Valley, Charlton will once again line up with a back three of Amari'i Bell, Kayne Ramsay and Lloyd Jones in front of Thomas Kaminski.

Rob Apter and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Sonny Carey joining Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty in a midfield three, behind Charlie Kelman and Tyreece Campbell.

Joe Rankin-Costello, Harvey Knibbs and Tanto Olaofe are joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Macaulay Gillesphey, Alex Mitchell, Luke Berry, Karoy Anderson and Miles Leaburn.

Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Apter, Carey, Coventry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Kelman, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Gillesphey, A.Mitchell, Anderson, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Knibbs, Leaburn, Olaofe

  • Feeling absolute dog rough today with a fluey thing. Hopefully the Addicks can lift the spirits!
  • Unchanged XI
  • Kelman with the first goal today!
  • Interesting that we're unchanged, I guess Jones sticks by the old adage that you don't tinker with a winning side
  • Fair enough... Stick with what "worked" against Watford, am surprised we've not gone for strength up top away from home though. Yet Campbell caused problems last week, so hopefully he will do similar again today.
Should be plenty of space out wide for him to attack if we can get him the ball

  • Can’t really argue with an unchanged winning side but I think Doc really needs a good game today or he could be under pressure for his spot
  • Personally would've changed Olaofe for Campbell but can't hate a decision to keep together a 'winning' side.
I wouldn't have begrudged Leaburn and Olaofe today, they looked good together on Tuesday, albeit against lower opposition, and could see us needing a bit more height and strength (They've equally got some pace) away from home.
  • Must say, that bench of gamechangers is looking pretty solid...

Maybe thinking Kelman needs minutes to settle in and Campbell's pace on the counter attack could be useful?

Either way, not sure Campbell/Kelman is a partnership that's going to complement well.
  • Hope Carry can get up into the City box a few times or it’s going to be a very lonely afternoon for Kelman.
  • Can you watch on an iPad with VPN?
  • That shirt is just nasty - and not in a good way.

Believe this is the new norm this season.

Yeah I have done plenty of times

75 minutes before KO this season.
  • Dixon, Taylor and Ahadme on their benches this afternoon.

    Asiimwe starts for AFC Wimbledon.
  • It's the right choice not to change the team. We beat a good side last week and everyone did their part. TC was hugely involved and Olaofe also looking good against a L1 side isn't a reason to make a change, especially as Olaofe's speed and strength is something that will have more effect against a tired out defence than TC's pure pace. Kelman needs minutes and a bit of faith, and Leaburn doesn't need to start a second game in a week while his fitness still needs building up. Being able to rotate the team when we want and bring good players off the bench is a strong position to be in

Surprised that Taylor is fit already for Northampton, having had no Pre-season. I get in some way he would be fit to have gone out on loan, but didn't expect his involvement so soon.

    Spot on
  • I am convinced Doc will lose his place eventually but Jones is right not to change the team.

What’s the reasoning? What difference does that 15 minutes make?
