Yeah, that's absolutely shit luck. Imagine working up to it for four years, and having it cancelled halfway. What are they going to do about people using it as a qualifying event for PBP?
Absolutely the right decision though - going over the pennines with 80mph gusts and into the Scottish lowlands with even stronger gusts woukd be incredibly dangerous.0 -

real shame. mate of mine was going well, his first long long ride. would've got round I'm sure.1

A mate of mine has just abandoned Mother North in Norway. 1000km and 16,000 metres of elevation! The weather got so bad he nearly froze to death coming back down a mountain to a stop-point.
He still had to do 60 miles and 5,000 feet of climbing after he DNF'd to get to a train station!1 -
