BBC Sounds: termination of services to overseas users

BBC Sounds terminated services for overseas users on the 21st July. It's written that we can access radio channels on BBC World News and services but I can't seem to download this.

I don't understand why the BBC won't allow a subscription service for BBC Sounds

How are other overseas users dealing with this? Has anyone found any shortcuts? Using a VPN doesn't work with the BBC.

No, the BBC have always had this sussed. There's more chance of Charlton winning the FA Cup than getting something like i-player outside the UK.

Here in Portugal, I have radio 2 on most mornings using my VPN without any problems at all and can also watch BBC iPlayer, either live or catchup again with no problems.
Also watched tonight's women's football on ITV.

    My VPN is a godsend!

I think you will find it is because they have deals with other national broadcasters and commercial companies, PBS is a classic example.

Unrelated to BBC Sounds, but bonus info for VPN users:
Set your country to Albania and watch YouTube without the ads.

(there's a list of other countries too, where this will work)

Not anymore you can’t as that’s what I’ve been using (well not in Ireland anyway).
I finally was able to download the BBC World Service app on my phone so that I could listen to the cricket today in my She Shed.

You must have a shitty VPN, Jim. I've been watching iPlayer and accessing geo-restricted radio content (sports commentaries etc.) using a VPN from Canada for over a decade.

ExpressVPN seems to work well for me when overseas. Mullvad as well.

I've downloaded this but the only live UK radio station is Talk Sport.

Downloaded this too. The only BBC stations available are Arabic and World Service.

Have you been able to do so since 22 July?

I use this service too and always works fine. Just tried it now without my VPN and I got radio2 no problem.
