Does anyone know if the reason that we now play Dartford as our regular PSF warm up, rather than Welling because its a more modern ground, because Welling tried to dismember our team a few years ago, because we play the "reserves" there now or for some other reasons?
I think the most likely reason is that we use the ground for our Under 21's and it is part of the deal. I personally prefer it anyway
Entertaining afternoon. Good run out for the players in their first game and no injuries. If Rylah only has a year of his contract left, certainly like him to be offered longer. Although he and several of younsters look like they would benefit from loans
What a shame that some of our younger supporters seem to want to behave like pricks, that keeper Dartford brought on is still at school and barely 16 yet has to have these idiots throwing bottles at him.
I suggest if any of them are reading this or have friends that are then this behaviour is welcome down the Den but not at Charlton matches.
Just catching up on this and i'm surprised to see the Jamaican lads there. Their last Gold Cup match was less than 3 weeks ago, surely they need more of a rest?
As usual a great day out at a great club. Decent beer at a decent price. Thought their team was more than useful and had a tidy midfield. Shameful throwing of water bottles at their 16yr old GK at the end, who despite that made two very good saves. Looks decent to be fair. Their bald headed player looks like he has played at a higher level and made room for himself. A good run out, a good day out.
I liked how comfortable Zach Mitchell looked on the ball and in tighter spaces, he seems to have a decent burst of speed which help him in little races to the ball...... kind of reminded me of Kayne Ramsay.... OK they weren't pressing hard but Alex Mitchell also looked comfortable in possession and distribution too which was good to see. Interesting to see Kaheim Dixon playing a bit deeper, he looks like he's going to be able to read the game and he has a good eye for a pass. Karoy and Sonny Carey kept things moving well in the middle too. And great to see the academy lads out in force, playing their part in the squad and the win.

If you mean Samir Carruthers (i wasn't there today) he will probably have played against us before in L1 or the Championship. It still confuses me how he's dropped so far.
I'm away so couldn't go, but promising for Dartford's season that they were competitive today.
Can't believe you cashed out. Just think about what you could have done with that extra £0.03
Well spotted.
I invested that 3p in a Dartford win when we went 3-2 up at odds of 125/1. You have to bet tactically to get anything from the bookies, plus i'd never be surprised at late late goals in any Charlton game so it was an insurance bet really
In all my 70 years of playing and watching football,I have never seen a penalty given whereby a defender is smashing the ball out of his area, and it hits his mate on the arm.how can this be deliberate, intentional or trying to gain an advantage, utterly ridiculous.
I hate 343. Almost no teams do it successfully and those that do tended to have preternaturally talented wingers. Jones has tried it before and quickly put it in the burn box along with the 442 diamond. I don’t hold out all that much hope for 3421 either. We know Jones likes using pre-season to try some ideas so I expect and hope we’ll line up 352 when the season starts
The beauty of the 352 is when under the cosh it's 5-3-2 and why change the 3 CB's system which turned our season around especially when Ramsey, Jones and Macca were all fit.
The new players will hopefully fit in and a slight tweak may be needed depending on the 11 on the field and the state of the match, plus are we chasing the game or defending a lead 🤞🏼
We are back in the 2nd tier and it feels good after the long absence.
If we are buying Apter (surely less than £1.8k) we can only be looking at one formation. 3-4-2-1. If Edwards and Ramsay are the wide part of the four, that gives us an overload of CMs. Coventry, Carey and JRC for two places, without Doc, Berry, Anderson, and Taylor plus Enslin and Mwamba knocking on the door.
The two wide forwards only have Fullah, Dixon and Rylah as back up. I can see some regulars from promotion leaving to get gametime. AM, AMB, GA, TT (in January), DK on loan.
Weaknesses, LCB unless Bell regains some pace after his injuries, and aforementioned wide forwards. This assumes Apter signs.
I wonder what plan B/C will be? 4-4-2 with hoofball or this years asymmetric 3-5-2/3-4-3?

Samir Carruthers. Played for Villa at some point I believe

Played more than just a bit then. I do beg his pardon.

Our Belgian femme fatale told fans they could watch the Premiership stars of the future at the Valley that season.
Now we can watch the standard Premiership formation of the future at the Valley this season - and it's 3-4-3.
Nj tried it once, but did not have the players for it. The players he is adding now make most sense in a 3-4-3. He clearly believes in it. There is no room or need for a DKD, and even less for a Jake Berry.
Three up front with relatively few defensive responsibilities. Four in midfield who are defenders by nature to compensate for the previous, but with the pace to burst forward spontaneously when opportunity arises. Our Fort Knox trio at the back. No need to tamper with what has worked best. An upgrade in goal.
A line-up skewed towards defending, sure, but we had that even in League One. The need is greater now.

Caruthers played against us 6 times in his career before yesterday apparently. I assume when he was at MK and Sheffield
