Bob Ross...The Joy of Painting

Not sure if we have any artists here, (I'm referring to the paint and brushes variety), but there is a program currently on Sky Arts in two programs between 8.00-9.00 am weekdays with Bob Ross, he's dead now, but used to watch this in the 80's, and helped get me through Covid and lockdown.
He's the personification of chill and calm, and what he creates on canvas in 30 minutes is really amazing and relaxing to watch it all unfold, so if interested thought it could be worth a watch should time permit...

I did like his programme though, even though his pictures look a bit samey- I think they used to sell them in a Bluewater arcade shop.
  • A great watch.
Hugely talented artist (not that I'm an expert) and a seriously chilled out dude.

According to Bob, signing Ahadme wasn’t a mistake, just a happy little accident.
    This needs a promote

Matter of opinion, personally I feel Hart is vastly inferior to Ross.
  • If we're talking about great artists that left an impression, feel thet Rolf Harris deserves a mention
  • I remember my parents having the book “ The Joy Of Sex” back in the seventies. 🤮 Is it the same illustrator?

  • Been watching this for a few years. Very good. He has a painting already completed just off camera, which he occasionally glances at whilst painting the new one. Very relaxing tv.

He is an incredible painter. You think that's going to look crap and it turns out to be a work of art.

Died too young but a heavy smoker I believe. Not sure but I think the family won't sell his paintings... Maybe wrong.

I like watching him…….but he seems to do the same 4 or 5 paintings over and over again.
  • He gets so far on a painting and you think stop that's brilliant. Then he does a bit more and it becomes incredible.

It's all about education, he's giving painting advice and help on how to get certain effects and perception of depth using colour changes whilst creating what I feel is a very realistic finished article, he is always inviting people to paint along with him...
He's painted some extraordinary stuff on oval canvas's, also using tape to create effects of looking through a window, so some different and varied stuff, and very clever.

I don't think i've got time to grow a beard....
  • I took up painting in covid - something to kill the boredom - very therapeutic and got half decent at it -- not picked up a brush since the pubs re opened. - gonna get the brushes back out though
  • I'm not a painter, but like to think I'm reasonably good at drawing, mainly pencil but quite good with charcoal. Bob's paintings can seem repetitive, but every artist has their strong points, and he was very good at what he did.

“Bob Ross” is still a big art business in the US. An interesting documentary on Netflix (if still available) about how the rights to his name and brand are owned to the exclusion of his family.
  • The only artist I have time for is @shine166

    geometrics or nothing !!!!!
