Wrexham have signed Wales striker Kieffer Moore on a three-year contract from Championship rivals Sheffield United.

The fee for the 32-year-old is undisclosed but reports suggest the deal is worth £2m.

Will make an interesting comparison with Kelman. 2mill for a "proven" striker reaching the end of his prime versus a reported 3-5mill for a younger, up and coming striker who hasn't proved himself (yet) at this level.

Imagine Moore is on much higher wages too but I wonder which will be the better value overall.
  • Seems to be a bit of a fight in their transfer business between high profile old pros (Moore, Coady) and younger players who will have some resale value (Smith, Broadhead etc.). Interesting to see how that goes
  • Rumours they're after Lewis Koumas too, given that and the Broadhead rumour seems they're targeting a few localised lads.

    Danny Ward and Coady too.

    Cacace less so!
    Apparently Broadhead has signed £7.5m

A 3 year contract for a 32 year old is generous. I suppose Moore has never relied on pace, so won't decline as quickly as a pacey striker.

Sam Smith and Nathan Broadhead are 27 - hardly youngsters - £7.5m is massively overpaying for Broadhead imo

Not sure how long he had left at Sheffield Utd but wouldn’t be surprised if the 3 year deal guarantees him the same amount of total money with Wrexham having to pay less than £25k a week

Sheffield United fans seem to be more than happy he’s gone. No doubt he was a good player but it’s fair to say his best years are behind him.

John Eustace might be the only man that prefers signing former players more than our Nathan.

Weimann, Batth, Sanderson, Ozoh and Beck all signed this window that he has previously managed.
  • I had Moore down as someone who pops up with decent amount of goals every season. Actually, he's not scored more than 7 goals since 2020/21 (fair enough two of those seasons were in Premier League).

Why would he agree to that? I guess more game time?

It's a pretty common thing, it's probably why May signed a long deal at Huddersfield too. As you say it guarantees game time without losing out on any money he would be owed. He probably knows he won't get another contract of that size again so this maximises his earnings while he can

It doesn't really.  Say he had 2yrs left at Sheffield utd, he could stay there on £25k a week then for the 3rd year find another smaller contract of say £5K-£10k a week and therefore be better off than signing a 3 year deal for the same he would have earned in 2 yrs.

He's probably just on similar wages at Wrexham as he was at Sheff Utd, but in the above scenario I guess he'd get a signing-on fee.

So Sheff Utd - £2.5m over 2 years, then he'll be 35 (he's 33 in a few days) and who knows whether he'll get another contract or what level it's at.

Or Wrexham - £2.5m over 3 years, but also a few hundred grand at the start of the contract, gets to play for a Welsh team, might get a bit of publicity from the TV show and increase work after retirement etc.

But that's a gamble, he would be 34 by the time that deal ran out so less money would be offered and his body might have broken down. As with all football finances, it's about finding a balance between risk and reward

I reckon its partly because he's Welsh and was previously at Wrexham - good for the marketing & the 'fairytale' etc

Agree it's an overpay. I just meant younger than their usual 30+ workhorses, at least they have a chance of selling on Broadhead and Smith if they have a good season or two, no chance of that with Mullin, Palmer etc.

    Didnt want him anyway... Sob!

Feels like an interesting loan move for him though, I know it was "only" Leyton Orient, but given how well he did, and "that" goal against Man City, I'd have thought he'd have had higher interest, even with us linked.

I suspect he’s gone somewhere where he will definitely play - granted, he would have done for us too.  Not sure if he was actually “linked” to us , or whether it was wishful thinking

I didn’t think they signed Broadhead ? Maybe Moore is a cut price alternative? 7.5m is a lot for Broadhead but they would be signing someone potentially at / reaching their peak while Moore is on the way down.

Sam Smith, I have known about for years and he is the one player that gave Ramsey a hard time in our defeat at Wrexham.
Broadhead was a new name to me !
