More grief coming Duchatelet's way

The management board of the Belgian Pro League are to consider banning artificial pitches. Roland not happy.

Google translate from today's St-Truiden regional Het Laatste Nieuws:

Roland Duchâtelet is angry. The owner of the football stadium of STVV does not understand that the Pro League is considering banning artificial grass from first class. This would be a tragedy for Sint-Truiden: it is the only club with a synthetic terrain and switching to synthetic turf is practically impossible. "There is a parking space under our field", Duchâtelet fiddles. "That they immediately give us 70 million euros for a new stadium. If you look at the other fields, the Pro League would better oblige everyone to play on artificial grass, instead of hanging out the monkey and playing political games because STVV gets good results. "

According to the mad one, the League are just hanging out the monkey.........  what?

He's planning to buy Hartlepool after he's sold us.
  • Ha ha ha, not a good week for the silly old fooker
  • He'll probably sell one of ours to pay for their new pitch.
  • He'll probably sell one of ours to pay for their new pitch.
He can't lay a grass pitch as there's a car park underneath it says

Groundshare at the Valley. It's the sort of thinking that differentiates the hoi polloi from the Turings.

Once again RD expects all the rules to be in accordance with his desires and everyone should fall in line with him.

I believe his first response to the Belgian Pro League was "Huh!  you need a pitch?"

Nonsense. There are plenty of car parks built underneath grass, for example the Abingdon Green car park, Great College St, opposite the Houses of Parliament.
  • I imagine he'll blame the Belgian football authorities for allowing Belgian owners next.

Do Monaco have a grass pitch?

Technically I'm sure it can be done. However, the fact the car park was designed and built specifically to have a synthetic pitch laid above it, would likely require a signifacant cost to design and install a natural grass surface

We can suggest St.Truiden groundshares with Standard Liège.  Simples.
  • I doubt the cost would be that much - he's just a mean b******.....

But the basic infrastructure would be there I suspect. Drainage is key. There were problems with the Abingdon Green car park, and it was closed for 6 months while the waterproofed it. It would certainly be a shame if Roland was faced with significant costs!

Don't really care, just mildly amused at the thought of RD fretting about having to spend a few million on a new pitch

We will want to tie up a sell-on clause on the pitch before he spends any money improving it.

It's all part of the 'Roland has had enough' narrative. We're all looking for the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Oh it would be terrible if he was forced to take that development down to facilitate a grass pitch for a protected local asset....

    Truly terrible.
