found this interesting - from a Birmingham site

In the second edition of our three part series 'Relegated', I am going to look at three players that Birmingham City should look to sign from Charlton Athletic.

The club is currently in turmoil with their owners and the fans are not happy at all and following their relegation into the third tier of English football, I think there could be some really good bargains to be had from their squad.

Although the squad may not look like it has much quality in it, on their day, the Addicks could beat anyone, as it was shown when they beat Middlesbrough at the Valley and they also did the double over Blues as well this season.

Within their squad, I believe there are some hidden gems and I have picked out three players who I think could really change the way Blues play next season.

1. JOHANN BERG GUDMUNDSSON.

The 25-year-old has arguably been Charlton's best player this season, scoring six goals for them in the league and as well as being an Icelandic international, I also think he can now call himself a tried and tested Sky Bet Championship player.

Although he hasn't been part of the most successful season, he has been one of the shining lights and I really started to notice him making strides in the team when Blues played them at the start of April, a game which the home side won 2-1 and Gudmundsson scored in.

Throughout the season, the AZ Alkmaar man only missed five games in the league which proves that he is able to go the distance in the league and I think he would be a real asset to have alongside Diego Fabbrini.

2. MORGAN FOX.

Blues have already been linked with the young defender and I actually think this is a move that could happen during the summer transfer window because we are most certainly on the look out for more defenders as Gary Rowett has highlighted himself.

At the age of just 22, Rowett would be able to nurture the Addicks academy product into a fantastic full back and I think if he had the complete faith from the manager, then he could really rival Jonathan Grounds for that left back spot.

Fox is currently valued at around £250,000 and is somebody that is well within our price range and because Rowett has openly admitted that the left side of defence is somewhere that he wants to have more options then a move for the young man could certainly happen.

3. CALLUM HARRIOTT.

The five feet, six inch striker spent the first half of the last campaign out on loan at League One side Colchester United where he scored seven goals in 23 appearances but he later made an impact in the championship when he returned to his parent club.

After making his Addicks return in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, Harriott went on to make a further 18 appearances, scoring three times in those games and again at the age of 22, I think he is somebody who can really progress at Blues if we were to make a move for him in the summer.

Harriott's current deal with the London based side expires in just over a months time and if Blues act quickly then I think they could really bag themselves a bargain as he is somebody who has real potential and I think he suits our style of play also.

Think Fox and Harroit have both fallen into the Simon Francis "scapegoat" category in the past and think both will do better once they move on. Both ,Fox in particular have been effected by the turmoil and as the blues fan says I think a good manager could really help nurture them.

    My own feelings:

Fox = Francis: there's a player in there...we could regret his depature
Harriott = McCormack: all the best son, on your way

McCormack who was promoted with Brentford from league 1 and won their supporters' player of the year award?

McCormack who played 29 times last season for Brentford in the championship?
    I know, astounding isn't it

Don't understand the issues with Harriott, he more than played his part when he came back from Colchester and played brilliantly for them at the level we'll be at next year. He's way ahead of John Robinson's first couple of years and he became a key player for us at the top level. Give him time to develop, he'll be a good player for us. He's still 21 isn't he?

Fox may be the same, he's been thrown in way too early, but that said I'm less convinced by his potential.

So surprised out of the 3 they've picked Morgan Fox is in there. A bigger bargain would be THD. I don't think Tariq would have been happy with the treatment he got being loaned out after being sent off. He'll be eager to go, but I'd rather him stay than Fox.

I don't get the criticism for Harriott at all. Fox I can but there's definitely a player there.

Charlton are offering a buy 2 get 1 free offer on those players

Harriott=Kyel Reid way too inconsistent, needs to be a big fish in a small pond, at a level where his pace can scare players and the goalkeepers are of a lower quality.

JBG will go back to continental football, somewhere like Feyenoord, Copenhagen, Köln etc.

Fox will be here next season IMO, lot of hot air about him but he's not been good enough, he only has potential at the moment, and his lack of pace will hinder him

The very same. Never rated him, and the fact that he bossed the game against us was an illustration of how far we'd fallen

Fox has lost all confidence this season and applying his trade elsewhere maybe the tonic he needs. Shame as I think he has a lot of potential.

    Jbg is better than Birmingham.

Harriet should stay, last chance saloon though.

Fox....I would sell him for a can of coke, not standard coke, the panda variety. I really hope this link is true

JBG is far, far too good for them. Can see him going to a top division abroad.

Feel like all three will do well elsewhere in the next few seasons, good luck to them - they'd also all be mad to not be wanting away this summer. Aside from the current club 'instability' - JBG is simply too good for League 1 and the other two both have potential as well as reasons to be pissed off with Charlton... Fox taking stick from fans most of the season, and Harriott not given much of a chance here after finishing last season strongly.

The sad thing is that fan pretty much echoes what the rest of football is thinking, in that there's a bargain to be had from us.

When was the last time we signed a player and can genuinely say we got ourselves a bargain? JBG excluded as he was a free agent and then compare that to the players who have left us on the cheap (when not undisclosed) - Kermorgant, Stephens, Morrison off the top of my head and no doubt most of our sales this summer will fall into this category as well.

The vultures have been hovering for a bargain from us for almost 2.5 years now while a lot of our signings get laughed at by other club's fans for being overpriced.

Astonishing when we used to be the ones picking up the bargains.

That's the thing with Cally, he has never been backed by a manager from the beginning of the season. When he first broke onto the scene he was key to that run that ended with us finishing 9th. Just outside the playoffs. But then the beginning of the next season Powell barely used him, he was on the bench/back with the u21s. As Powell preferred to use Stewart and one more defensive winger (Wilson/Pritchard/Cousins). It was only when RD decided not to extend Stewarts loan in Jan that Powell started playing Harriott. Then when Riga came in he managed to get the best out of Harriott. The following season Bob tried to turn him into a striker he subsequently lost form and then fell out of favour and suffered a day injury. The season just gone Luzon didn't rate him so sent him out on loan even though we didn't have a left winger in the squad. (Must have helped his confidence) he did well on loan and again we have seen him thrive towards the end of the season under Riga. I am not knocking the managers simply saying he has never been backed from the beginning of the season, in his natural position by any manager. It seems that he loses confidence from this and then it takes him a while to regain the confidence and form.

Back him from the beginning of next season and he will tear it up.
