Mhairi Black (and her maiden Commons speech)

If you haven't watched it, you should. Wow. What an impressive 20 year old.

If only all politicians were of the same breed. She identifies with what a lot of the UK think about the Labour party now, and has the opportunity to voice that through the SNP. it is a real shame there is not a party of similar values within England

    very impressive.
let's hope the bastards don't grind her down.

There is, but it keeps doing utterly idiotic things like putting certified hopeless case Natalie Bennett in charge

I don't think it matters which side of the political spectrum you come from and how much you agree or disagree with her (personally I'm pretty sympathetic) you have to be impressed with such eloquence and passion from a 20 year old.

As said above, I hope she's still got that passion at the next general election and hasn't had it all bashed out of her.

I actually just think the SNP should just be in control of the UK. I didn't agree with Scottish independence at the referendum but the more I hear the more I like.

Gotta agree. They're showing Labour up at the minute.

'I didn't leave the labour party, the labour party left me'.
I get this, my question is why young, or any age Labour activists seem to feel so stymied.
In the Conservative party it is easy to understand because there you have to be, as Thatcher said 'one of us', presumably that means on the top end of the selfish spectrum. With Labour the sense of inclusiveness seems to be absent.
On another note I see the Tories are going to bring in laws to restrict Unions, I think good, because now we can go for French style activism and the gloves will come right off.

You might find the answer to your question if maybe you didn't start from a false premise (i.e. that Tories have to be selfish and that Labour is inclusive). Try not to view the situation from a tribal platform and you might understand why so many people that those Labour used to take for granted have switched away.

    You missed the word 'presumably'.

yes i also hope that people like this young socialist lady also join Labour and Labour continues to show its true values ----they have no mandate in England the country they hate.

All those rabid socialist taxi drivers who through word of mouth can bring London to a standstill through gridlock, will the Conservative anti Union legislation work there? I await the scenes where hundreds of police officers drag them from their cabs in Parliament Square as each individual Taxi driver is arrested for a driving offence.
Tories Uber Alles kind of thing.

Nice speech, shame there was hardly anyone there to listen to it.

Great speech from an incredibly intelligent young women.
I enjoyed her Tony Benn reference, however Benn (arguably a brilliant man) couldn't make his views work and neither will Black, nothing will change and the Tories will continue to batter and rob the working class and the poor, they always have done and always will.

What does that speech do for the poor people in her constituency that she talks of? For that matter what are the 50 odd SNP MPs lounging around and listening to her doing for those people by being down in London? I'm sure they are well pleased that Fox Hunting won't be making an early comeback...

Doesn't the SNP led Scottish Government have a role to play in alleviating the poverty in Paisley she is concerned about and oughtn't they be getting on with it, thus setting an example of how their policies are better for the people they appeal to?

'Fraid to say, Greenie is right, nearly the whole of the UK, including Scotland, is owned by a relative handful of people and they effectively control everything. The rest of us, including our young hero and her boss, and the likes of Jeremy Corbyn, are just plebs.

Why is he? Actually he says what he thinks and that is rare amongst politicians. We are all free to disagree with him but it doesn't make him a c*nt per se.

Yes, she should get back to where she belongs and leave the politics to overpriveledged southerners because they are making such a great job of it.

That is what the Scottish assembly is for.
