Is it possible that there could be an Alternative World Cup?

If, as looks likely/possible that the vote goes ahead and Blatter wins due to the federations that have been benefactors of his corrupt reign voting for him again,we would then have a scenario of a World Cup likely to be boycotted by the European Nations and even more damning , boycotted by the main Sponsors.
Surely there would likely then be a window for a new Alternative World Tournament containing the Euro nations plus any other Federations ,South and North AMerica Oceania etc who are opposed to Blatter. If this were a financial success even bigger than the WC itself then this is likely to undermine everything and make more federations move away from FIFA ?

I think there is a possibility of it happening, especially with the UEFA nations. Part of me still thinks that the likes of the larger nations like England, France, Spain will actually bottle it though when it comes down to it.

Plus I think the venomous feeling towards FIFA is a lot more rife in our country than it is elsewhere.

Sadly I don't think they've got the guts to do it.

Shame, it could work - get the money behind it, in this case TV deals, sponsors etc and the rest would stop into place.

Think it might mean that short term the decent international competition is lost to the likes of Sky but long term it could help the game with the pressure on FIFA to clean up.

World Series Cricket changed the game after all.

We should take a leaf out of the yanks book and host "The World Series of Football" in which only ourselves and a neighbouring nation who is a footballing minnow participate. We could then be World Champions every year!

Blatter doesnt look well. I wouldnt be surprised if he pegged it on the podium.

Seriously think it is time the UEFA nations walked away and formed a separate competitor to FIFA. The best clubs and the best players play in UEFA, ever since 1950 at least one World Cup finalist has been European and only 2 non-European nations have won the World Cup.

Benefits to UEFA clubs would mean they could ignore requests from the other continents whose tournaments clash with the club seasons. No more FIFA meddling. Goal-line technology could have been introduced far more quickly. More sponsorship money is kept within UEFA and not buying mansions or sports-cars for oligarchs in developing nations.

Eventually the other continents would be begging UEFA to let them in. Same thing happened with club rugby - the biggest clubs set up their own tournament because they didn't like the Heineken Cup and the other clubs capitulated when their sponsors abandoned them.

Three - Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Doesnt include Americas nor Oceania. However, Australia was in Eurovision this year, so maybe they'll relax the rules a bit.

the yanks would want to take it over, call it soccer and take some moral high ground about one of theirs being the whistle blower (despite him being a no good fucker himself and grassing everyone else up to have his sentence reduced)

Call it the Oxymoron World Cup .. a World Cup that does not include 2/3 of the nations of the world .. most of the 'third world/developing countries' football authorities are either in thrall to or in the pocket of Herr Blatter .. much of the enjoyment of recent tournaments has been the games between small nations who might only play one another every decade or so .. all right, the winner is always a 'big' footballing nation but the chance to see the minnows at play is always enjoyable so far as I am concerned

Agree with some of the comments on here then that we should do a Copa America style competition and have a Qualifying group for invited countries.

Every country involved (European or ROW) has to provide clear reports on whether corruption has taken place prior to Qualifying though and if so, they're suspended until the next competition (and yes that would possibly include Brazil what with the Head of their FA being one of those arrested yesterday)

Since 1950. As in not including. The European nations may have been hampered somewhat in the years immediately following 1945 for obvious reasons as well, specifically concerning the decimation of large swathes of the male population.

England took part in 1950, along with five other European nations and famously lost to the USA. Uruguay won the tournament that year for the second time.

I suppose Charlton have never won the FA Cup ;-)

Didn't we offer one of the delegate's kids a job at the FA to try and get his vote? Can't be bothered looking it up but I think we did. So we weren't that good at the bribery thing.

The main UEFA countries withdrawing from the WC would bring things crashing down pretty quickly but the collective will doesn't seem to be there.

Very good point and quite agree... How else can you stamp it out unless you clamp down on every little piece of corruption

Agree, the North Americans would probably follow - best of luck to the remains of FIFA in funding their tournaments without the European & American money.

Russia is part of UEFA and I don't see them scuppering their world cup so there is never going to be consensus in UEFA and by all accounts Spain are going to vote Blatter too.

I don't understand what the Brazillians hoped to gain by giving expensive gifts to European delegates during their own World Cup? There is a difference between a "thank you" and a bribe.

UEFA could even just hold a European Championship in 2018 if they want to boycott the world cup.

My own Fifa coup would involve telling Platini to withdraw UEFA and to set up a rival to Fifa which all countries in the world could join. We make it clear that we would support his bid for becoming the President of this new international organisation, as even he is a better option than Blatter right now. Russia 2018 goes ahead, unless clear evidence can be found that there was corruption in the voting process. Qatar 2022 does not happen with the European nations. We organise our own alternative with the countries who want to be part of it.

How simple would it be to invite all previous world Cup winners to a tournament in England in 2022, during the Summer? And, to say to invite each of these previous champions to invite one other nation of their choosing?

Who wouldn't want to see a tournament in a proper football country, at the right time of year, that included England, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay?

And, with the persuasion of marketing dollars from sponsors, the list could easily be extended to the Netherlands, the USA, Mexico, China, two or three countries in Africa..?

And, as it doesn't clash with the "other" World Cup at Xmas in 2022, FIFA couldn't object.

If the world plays football under the rules that the English fa created all those years ago, can the English fa just refuse to allow fifa to play football under those rules therefore taking the game from them,

It was said by someone on talk sport a while back that the rules of football are owned by the English fa,

If and this is a big if,

If that is the case and true would it not be a way around the whole shameful situation

Absolutely Dave, happens in honest business all the time - I often used to take a client for a nice meal if they placed decent orders with me, I never once suggested that might be the case in advance of gaining that order, and no company I worked for ever suggested that should happen.

But I take your point - better to be squeaky clean in this case.
