  • A sliver of light in a murky depressing tale of corruption.
But what utter crooks they come across as, especially Warner and that square peg in a round hole Blatter
  • Yep. Although to be honest I think they could've find somebody a lot better than this fella to present the argument and make it seem a bit more well-founded and convincing. He just seems like an old fella who's lost his marbles, if he started shouting at me from across the street I wouldn't take him seriously!
  • In all seriousness, I didn't need reminding that that absolute **** Mellor has been on OUR pitch. He's an obnoxious, rude, hypocritical ****.
  • I would spit on you - nice bloke that Warner
  • Sorry off_it, I was just excited by the fact our ground was shown on the tele, which is a rareity these days now we are no longer England's model "well-run club"
  • We're on the FIFA 11 adverts every day!

I agree with you, but the tragedy is, he's apparently a shit hot investigator. I think this 30 minute Panorama format is dumbed -down crap, and while I think FIFA stinks, this wasnt enough to justify running three days before the bid.
  • How long has he been investigating FIFA?
    What exactly has he achieved?

Somewhere between luke warm and chilled I imagine would be a better description

Bollocks. Read 'Foul!' and then you'll understand WHY he hasn't achieved much in his attempts to get some transparency in FIFA. It's because it is inherently, completely and outrageously corrupt, from the lowest levels right up tp the top. There's nothing you can do about it because FIFA are accountable to absolutely no-one. It's an utter disgrace. Andrew Jennings' investigative skills are second to none.

  • So what exactly deserves your 'bollocks; in my post

If there is nothing he can do about it how does that make him a poo hot journo?

Are you able to discuss without this aggressive tone?

    You are joking, PS?

Andrew Jennings is a brilliant and award-winning journalist who has been chasing corruption in FIFA, the Olympics committe and elsewhere in elite sport for years.

Here's what The Observer said about him yesterday: "Undoubtedly the world's most consistent and persistent scourge of corruption in sports governance. Jennings has become a familiar figure at Fifa's press conferences, where he specialises in asking inconvenient questions. Officials have learned to flee on first sight of his snowy hair.''
  • Brilliant he can be, but in this case, sadly without end product.
    Paul Foot he aint

    Paul Foot he aint

Well much as I admired him, Paul Foot was always a polemicist as much an investigative reporter. The same was true of Pilger.

They had their (politcally motivated) postions as men of the left, and brilliantly marshalled facts, half-truths and pure supposition to support those positions.

Both were undeniably great campaigning journalists. But I'd rate Jennings as a more forensic reporter than either of them.
  • The job of an investigative journalist is to bring to light wrongs. It isn't to do anything about those wrongs. Jennings' work on FIFA is nothing short of exemplary - it isn't his fault (nor his role) to DO anything about the corruption inherent in that rotten organisation.

FACT: The Valley is on the tele more often than any other ground except Upton Park (this is due to the two appearing on the Eastenders map).
  • Andrew jennings book Foul is a must for all football fans.

The panorama stuff is completely dumbed down if you want to know why Sebb Blatter and Warner should not be allowed to be anywhere near our football read it.

You want to know where all the back handers and corruption starts and finishes within football Read it

Andrew jennings needs a better window to tell the world all about the things he has found If he was spouting crap he wouldve had his book pulled and then have been sued none of has happened

he is a top journo let down by the cowards at the beeb

Don't know about the 'cowards' bit. He's been let down by the stupid shift in format of Panorama - 30 minutes (25 minutes with editorial and titles and all that shit) isn't anywhere near enough time to tell the story of the corruption of Blatter, Warner, Havelange, Teixeira et. al. In fact, the beeb are one of the only outlets that would even touch Jennings with a bargepole. The world cup isn't coming to England anyway - we're not endemically corrupt enough for it. My best guess would be Russia - hundreds of millions in kickbacks from a juicy corruption-rife country like that.
  • They shouldve gone full pelt mate Jennings has a story to tell there is no way that his info would only have been historical, Someone somewhere has pulled the plug on him and put out a half baked story, i am sure of it

This man is the only one brave enough to dig deep into the core of the political party called Fifa

i dont and never did believe taht we would get the World cup Cue Jennings being made the scapegoat and villian and watch Blatter and the dangerous Warner start their hate campaign
  • I thought the very placid tone of he journo really shows that the accussed could not claim aggresive journalism or harrassement.

The comment "there is nothing he can do about it how does that make him a poo hot journo?" does not take in to account the situaton. Jennings has uncovered corruption on a world wide scale. The fact that the corrupt are the only ones who can investigate and punish themselves is not down to one journalist, it also does not mean that they should not be exposed.

  • The problem is if you create a stink you don't get the World cup - We don't need a tv programme to tell us FIFA has corrupt officials- the way it is set up it would be incredible if it didn't. In a funny sort of way -if the press say they will decalre war on FIFA if we don't get the world cup it could be a disaster for the bid or it could go the other way. Probably be a disaster though because FIFA as an international organisation can just ignore or deny the truth and carry on.
  • Disappointed that it was on at 8:30, I was expecting an hour long show at 9.

Did they mention the allegation that fifa paid no tax at the world cup?
  • FIFA have hijacked the world game, which is now played by their rules. It's well known what this self-serving organisation is all about, so what's the point of the investigation (and why the timing)? In the public interest? It's not in our sporting interest, nor is it is our financial interest as the BBC forego their share of the huge fees due to the host broadcaster/s.

The BBC's own immortal words at the moment of our supreme triumph are now an ironic and bitter echo. "They think it's all over - it is now."

Russia and FIFA - the perfect partnership, who will suit each other just fine.
  • [cite]Posted By: Friend Or Defoe[/cite]Did they mention the allegation that fifa paid no tax at the world cup?
Yes, they covered it very well as the Dutch blew the whistle on this aspect because they had thankfully refused to comply with these demands and allowed Jennings access to the hitherto secret documents. Jennings is a hero in my eyes, he has uncovered so much over the years and it's not just about a few missing millions. Just take a look at his website, a real eye opener. If we lose the World Cup bid, so be it, it's time the obscenity that is FIFA was stopped.

  • Is there any way to hold FIFA accountable other than leave it? Should we consider doing so?
  • The timing of the airing this programme has probably ended any chance of us hosting the World Cup in 2018. The allegations on this programme are old and have previously been made public, without any action being taken by anyone. Jack Warner's ticket 'allocation' was made public months ago and the kick backs from ISL to the FIFA delegates is old news. For some reason the Swiss authorities beleive that these issues are not illegal and do not warrant investigation. Whilst Andrew Jennings is a top journo, the BBC has definately turned the whole of the FIFA organistaion against us. We all know that FIFA is a totally corrupt and disgraceful organisation, why publicly broadcast it again 2 days before the decision is announced - for what purpose? "And the host for the 2018 FIFA World Cup is....................................Russia - kerrrr ching!
  • Does anyone honestly think there was or is any chance that we were going to get the world cup.

    I didnt ever believe it
  • Hayatou is now to be investigated by the IOC. Maybe he'll be the first to be held accountable for his actions.
[cite]Posted By: nth london addick[/cite]This man is the only one brave enough to dig deep into the core of the political party called Fifa

They're even worse than a political party, FIFA is essentially a dictatorship. We pay the taxes (match tickets, merrchandise, we're the market to which the sponsors pay their monies to access) yet we have no say in how it is run. That Warner bloke came accross as just terrible, how can a man who resorts to threatening to spit on a journalist because he becomes agitated have such a position of power ?

There must be a way of making FIFA accountable, I don't think we should just pull out of FIFA, and in fairness unless you could convince 7 or 8 of the worlds other top countries to follow it would be pointless.
  • Warner is linked to worse than that, I urge everyone to buy the book Foul read it you will be amazed at the depth of corruption the depth of deciept that Warner and Blatter are linked to,

read the parts where warner gets involved with Fifa nad the world youth Cup

Who owned the business that built the infastructure,

Who was involved in some form or other in the companies that supplied the equipment and materials to build the stadia

Who then alongside Blatter made the decision to which country had the Cup tournament.

The story goes on and on it is a facinating read and one where he challenges FIFA to Sue him to ban his book if he was lying.

Well the book is on the shelves and he has not been bought to task

Blatter and co just ignore it like a little spot what people need to do is read it and ask questions but the journos who need to do it are as happy to take the five star treatment and the old boys club jolly outings.

There needs to be questions asked in the public demain at every single press conference at every level of communication.

Blatter cant even be removed from office and Plattini will be the same when he takes over and he will take over

I don't know much about football politics but my guess is that the only way to do it would be for UEFA to break away.
