  • These pics are superb!  Would have loved to have gone to an away game in them days looks twice as good as these days, all lads on the piss up and that!
  • I was a mess up at Carlisle that season. In the boozer at 11am, to the game at 2.55, pay on the gate...Those were the days
  • I was on an unofficial coach, got picked up about 5 or 6am outside Shooters hill nick, drunk by Dartford Tunnel, legendary stop off in Blackpool on the way home, what a weekend, 1905 & Dave Mehmet were on it too I believe?

RIP Big Duncan and Keith Hanson.

  • On the unofficial coach too, ended up in Blackpool. Seem to remember the coach driver was a massive black guy and when it all kicked off on the sea front he was dragging us off people and throwing us on the coach because he wanted to go home (it was 3 in the morning)

Special day out if ever there was one.

  • If you were in the white transit van that picked up Lisa and I, who'd hitched from Sheffield, then thanks, and similarly if you were in the car that took us back as far as Manchester. Back in Sheffield by closing time, good night.
  • This was one of the classics, a mob of us went up on the Friday. Narrowly escaping a kicking that night we took refuge in our B&B. The next morning about 9:30 we walked down to the town centre. Outside the station other Addicks had started to gather. Then another train came in from London,we were taking over!

Pubs opened at 10.30 am in those days, so we all walked down the high street and were waiting outside their main pub. They wouldn't let us in, unsurpisingly,so we walked round the corner to some dive, had 1 pint the went in dribs and drabs back to the main pub which was packed with us very quickly.

A group of Carlisle gathered outside wanting trouble, they were quickly chased up the road. After that the police waited outside the pub to escort us drunken singing Reds to the ground.

Only a draw was needed for us to be promoted, but if we had lost and pompey had won by a margin that day it might have been dodgy on the last game.

We went 2-0 down and at the same time pompey were on their way to winning 4-0. I cant remember the order of the goals but there was that amazing own goal from outside the area plus 2 more from us 2-3 and we are up.

If we hadn't got promoted to the top flight then, i dont think we would have survived.

  • Got the train up, if memory serves me right there was engineering work on the line and the train had to go via small branch lines, took bloody ages. Coming out of Carlisle station i made my way along the High St and luckily one of my mates saw me from the pub they were all in, he said that it had kicked off and I seen to remember that someone said Mark Reid's dad was in the pub. Great day but poxy train journey home, no buffet and by the time we got to Euston we'd missed the last tube.

King Lennie 1: Is the Bainsy in the brown jacket ? he was standing next to me for most of the game and I remember him having a brown jacket on.

I hired a coach, on the premise that I was arranging a family wedding trip. Loaded it up with booze and the driver seemed fine and never had any doubts that the wedding was a scam. Even got the driver to take us to blackpool to celebrate for a few quid. Seem to remember the coach having to leave a bit sharpish as blackpool became a bit of a battleground with man utd fans and us.
SD I was on that coach. Remember drinking in a pub and the landlord owned a club and told us if we went round before 10 we would all get in for free. A great day followed by a great night.
