Anyone not make it to the game last night?

edited December 2010 in Match Day Travel
Vehicle carrier on M25 J26 anti-clockwise fell on it's head about lunchtime yesterday and caused mayhem all day, spoke to a few people in work and made the decision to go for it about 4pm after debating whether to do clockwise or M11 but stupidly went for the obvious route and got stuck from 16:30 - 22:00 missing the game, ticket in pocket, and couldn't even watch it on TV! I know one other in my group didn't get there either, anyone else? Predictably missed a good win as well.

  • This is gonna be a big thread. I wasn't there, watched it on me 'puter.
  • stream was very good the stu posted
  • We also were caught up in the M25 chaos having failed to listen to travel reports on the radio earlier. DOH !!!

Left Dartford at 4.15 and came to a standstill between jncts 28 & 27 around 4.50. Total nightmare and panic once we heard ( sandwiched briefly between what was happening in Noocastle and the student protests) what was causing the problem which had been ongoing for over 5 hours.

Rang Mr F at home who consulted the road atlas with the plan to exit at jct 8 once we were on the M11 and go across country via the A602to Stevenage , then the A1M north to jct 8 around Hitchin and hence onto the A505 to Luton. Parked up at 8.43 and legged it to the ground...

.....to find the away turnstiles closed and doors to the area bolted. Banged on said door which was nervously opened by a steward telling us we were too late to buy tickets. We waved the necessary and said we'd only just arrived , to be told he couldn't let us in !!!! What ????? As I was about to totally " lose it " he must have seen the look on my face and muttering that he " shouldn't be doing it ", finally let us through ! You don't mess with Fanny !

The mood lightened a little when we found that Waggy had equalised just before the break , and the rest is history....

Planning to leave home circa 9am for Brentford on Tuesday.
  • On the OS it says 1,409 Charlton fans last night..Was more near 500..Did that many people get stuck!?
  • Wow, glad you made it in Fanny, you did better than I did and left around the same time as well it seems, I went along with the diversion the travel agencies had in place, A406 / M11, unfortunately didn't roll onto the A406 until about 20:00 and that was at a standstill as well so that was the point of no return, still took 2 hours to get back to SE9 from that point as well. Complete disaster.
  • The trains were a nighmare, missed the straight train to swanley because of that silly escort taking us the long way.
  • We left Lee about 4.50, caught the traffic updates about the crash just before we were to get on M11.
Decided to ditch the car at Bow Rd and catch train, got to the ground about 20 mins prior to kick off.
  • Heard about the traffic going anti-clockwise so went clockwise round the M25 (Wanted to avoid central london because of the usual traffic plus the students closing roads)

Did get caught in traffic, but managed to run into the ground just as they were having a minutes silence for someone.

    Left at 4.45, arrived 7.45.

I left home at 130 for the 1hr 20min journey expecting to get to Luton by 3.

Got caught a couple of miles before the problem at JCT 27, I sent out some tweets on twitter - got some messages back from Charlton fans who decided to go a different way so hopefully they all made it to the game.

I was going to head up the M11 Northbound and try and get to Luton via Stevenage but that was at a standstill so went Southbound and then onto the A406 North Circular. That was really slow due to Thames Water roadworks but finally managed to get to the M1 and got to Luton around 5pm so took 3 and a half hours but after reading some of this quite happy to get there at all, didnt realise it took so long to clear.

Flew back very quick after the game

    S-hole

Quite a few local inbreds were spilling for a fight after the match - didnt seem too happy with our fans happiness on the way to the station.
  • Was behind you choice, we gave you a littel song haha, don't let this obvious fame go to your head!

Somehow the Charlton lot ended up in front, and we ended up in with the Luton lot..Then we somehow ended up in a escort with the Charlton lot..Ahh i was too pissed to care anyway.
  • Thanks, Dave....I think !
