  • No Steyn for SA, a shame I was looking for de Wet and Steyn to open the bowling for SA.

Because we underachieve in this Sport for the players that we have at our disposal ?

I know you're on a wind up and hate cricket but we won the Ashes, and just beat SA in the one dayers so how are we under achieving?

It strikes me that this is a series between he best team in the world and the team that's just beaten Australia in the Ashes. I can't see how that can be regarded as "Underachieving".

I know you're almost always wrong every time you post a comment about cricket, but I wondered if you might have a good reason for getting it wrong this time.

We beat them 2-1. If we'd drawn the Aussies would have retained it.

    1. The electronic sight screen which switches from "sponsor logo" to "white" has broken down and we're waiting for the groundstaff to drape a white sheet over it, so the game can continue.

    2. The "hot-spot" technology - as well as other technology advantages - is not being deployed for this series as the S African Board of Cricket chose to save some money.

    3. The 2010 FIFA World Cup takes place in South Africa.

    262-4 at close
  • 262/4 at stumps, should have done better with the new ball, but to restrict SA to less than 3 an over isn't bad going. A couple of quick wickets tomorrow and it could yet prove to be a strong position.

Strange to only name 4 bowlers, especially with injury doubts. Really needed Wright in my opinion.

Hmmm... Wright as one of four or one of five? And, in either case, who would you drop to include him?

I suppose you'd have to leave Bell out? I would have him in addition to the others as I know SA have a strong batting line up, otherwise Sidebottom and just have 5 specialist bowlers. I'm not a fan of 4 bowlers, especially when they aren't all fully fit.
  • Considering we have both Broad and Swann who aren't far shy of being all rounders, I think it'd be reasonable to drop a batsman for a 5th bowler (preferably one who can bat a bit as well)

Who though? It's really easy to say we should pick "x", but forevery"x" here has to be a "y" left out.

Very slow scoring. I hope that doesn't mean dodgy conditions for when we bat!!

    You've responded :-)
  • 418 All Out
  • England 58/1 off 11 overs, taking advantage of some loose bowling.
  • 88/1 at stumps...

    Very dull test.
  • I'm a bit worried about Cook at the moment, had a bad Ashes and a bad start here. Denners has got to be next in line if Cook gets dropped?
