Nah, he wasn't the Wrexham player that hammered his goalline clearance against the goalie's back for the first Chelsea equaliser, so not quite every single requirement. But comparison is the thief of joy, so why not just enjoy Coventry's performance without worrying about how a former player's doing now?Leuth said:

A lot of our play goes through him. Yes, he often plays sideways or backwards, but as was mentioned earlier in this thread, he is the only midfielder who consistently shows for the ball. We also have very little movement in the channels, so there simply aren’t many options available to him.He makes a lot of tackles and interceptions and generally shields the defence well. He is very important to the way we set up. If we can add more quality in midfield and more movement ahead of him, I’m sure we’ll get even more out of him.I watched Wrexham play against us the other week and again yesterday against Chelsea, and I think the same applies to them: they have a good defensive midfielder in Dobson, but they also have quality around him with players like O’Brien, Rathbone and Windass.2

I don’t really understand the sideways and backwards criticism. Coventry may err on the side of caution, but that is likely what he's being asked to do and what most of his peers in that position do.For the last few weeks most have bemoaned the route one football - just playing it forward hopelessly without attempting to build up. Coventry is in there to keep the ball ticking over and help us set up better situations to go forward. That’s without mentioning his stellar work breaking up the play and stifling the opposition. That is the remit of his position, so I think it’s relatively lazy criticism to be honest.9

Conor Coventry sits down with CharltonTV's Charlotte Richardson on St Patrick's Day for an in-depth interview.3 -
No Coventry in the Ireland squad for their upcoming Play Off fixtures at the end of this month2
-
Effectively replaced by Harvey Vale who I believe has recently switched his allegiances so he’s eligible0

Thats a pity, was looking forward to see him play in Prague next week. It also means I have even less excuse not to be supporting the Czechs for this one, my wife was giving me pelters already for equivocating. She wasnt impressed with the Charlton player argument. She doesnt understand…shirty5 said:No Coventry in the Ireland squad for their upcoming Play Off fixtures at the end of this month

Disappointing he's not in the squad but not overly surprised. Heimir doesn't seem to particularly rate him0

. We need him rested and refreshed for next season . Disappointed for him personally but purely on a self basis I’m happy.3

The dentist is an eejit. But I'm not unhappy from a CAFC perspective.
Gutted for Conor though.1 -
Seems he's only ever played 22 minutes for the Ireland senior team. Thought he'd featured more than that.0

One of best mid players outside prem .. again unfortunately does not play for a noticeable club .. might come a time when he feels he has to move to play in a major tournament which is wrong2

Gutted for him. I think he's class. If they make the World Cup, I hope he makes their squad.5

Good news . Him and Carey are knackered - 2 weeks off0

You’ve today claimed that we’ve got one of the best midfielders and one of the best goal-scorers outside of The Prem.RonnieMoore said:One of best mid players outside prem .. again unfortunately does not play for a noticeable club .. might come a time when he feels he has to move to play in a major tournament which is wrong
Your Wind-Ups are becoming more and more of a struggle!2 -
So good that 7 other championship midfielders were picked ahead of him. He’s a decent player but he’s not been robbed not getting called upRonnieMoore said:One of best mid players outside prem .. again unfortunately does not play for a noticeable club .. might come a time when he feels he has to move to play in a major tournament which is wrong1
