Hats off to Docherty, an immence game from him, he battled all over the pitch for 100 minutes. He also had the assist for Carey's goal. He's had his distractors here on CL but that was a real Captains performance today.44

One thing I was disappointed with was Carey running at a tired defence, 1vs1 and he has a free shot on goal and he stops dead, plays the backwards pass, ball ends up crossed in and landing on the roof of the net. His goal was tidy, but that would have increased our chances of winning the game... By a lot.7

whats the tune for this?CaptainRobbo said:Hard fought point, well done lads.
Decent debut from Collins.
Jones got his head to pretty much everything.
Leaburn looked back to form.
Carey can keep shooting whenever he wants.
Up to 17th.
Breaking the 40 point barrier.
Can't think of any negatives. Don't worry too much about what other team's do, we can't control that.
Roll on Tuesday.

Absolutely fantastic performance. While I think Scienza had too much space to cross for the goal that is what quality players do and the header was brilliant. A squad built like that will create and score goals. That said, they only created an xG of 1.04 to our 0.85. The midfield battled away well, Doc had one of his great performances and made the right decision to make a simple pass to Carey for the goal. Carey took that well, got the ball out of his feet and used the slick surface to his advantage. Sichenje started slowly but improved, as did Ramsay. TC worked tirelessly up top with Dykes to tire the defence out and Leaburn massively benefited. Downes should have been sent off which would have changed the game. Only disappointments for me were Kaminski's distribution and and how off the pace Kelman looked. Why on earth didn't he drive forward for that counter attack?
Overall a fantastic battling performance, onto Tuesday9 -
Very, very important point (probably)4

A good result from a relatively average performance. Way many to poor passes over hit balls and poor first touch.
We scorned at least 2 or 3 goal scoring chances, whilst luck was our friend in defence.3 -
Kelman surely?Dazzler21 said:One thing I was disappointed with was Carey running at a tired defence, 1vs1 and he has a free shot on goal and he stops dead, plays the backwards pass, ball ends up crossed in and landing on the roof of the net. Wasn’t expecting anything from today so a point is very welcome. Just watched highlights and it would appear we rode our luck somewhat before they scored. We’re not a team bristling with Championship quality but we put the effort in. If we stay up it won’t be for lack of effort. Massive rebuild in the summer needed though assuming we retain our status. Midfield and attack are simply not good enough.

Shocking home support, well played to us that went, we out sung them the whole game. He's in your head......17

Oh no Collins is in the Twitter poll for MOTM (He was good but not MOTM good)6

The wives' of all Charlton Lifers let out a huge collective sigh of relief as Sonny Carey took a ball to the knackers late on.
Stand down ladies.
Normal service to resume Tuesday.24 -
Funny old league, the Championship. Pompey were all over the shop, but are flying right now. Look at their result today!Bod said:Fantastic from the lads , of course it begs the question that if you can mix it with a good side like Southampton how can you turn in such a limp one against a relatively poor side like Portsmouth??7 -
Can see why the highlights would look that way but don't think we rode our luck too much, we were fairly disciplined and structured. Limited them to half chances most of the timeShootersHillGuru said:Wasn’t expecting anything from today so a point is very welcome. PWR.
At the game.
Now, I don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer but I now remember why I don't go to away games anymore.
Yes the lads did great & scrapped bloody well for a point......but fuck me that ain't football as I know it. Spent most of the game camped in our half & only looked like scoring for 10 mins after we equalised. Then we retreated back in our shells & looked to take a point.
I will post more later but I just hope we don't take that mindset into the West Brom match. They are fragile & we need to be on the front foot from the off. Give their fans something to be fearful of.....not something to cheer.24 -
Superb point, especially after the midweek performance. Result os some sort would be great next week at WBA.0

Sonny Carey is the one player in this team
who you actually look forward to watching playing.Great summer signing amongst some absolute shockers.Keep going my son(ny)!!7 -
While Southampton did have 23 shots, at 1.04 xG they averaged only a 4-5% chance of scoring per shot they had on average.Compared to our six shots for 0.85 xG at a 14-15% chance of scoring per shot on goal.
We may have created less than them but we defended our penalty area well and our openings, when they came, were better than theirs.10 -

Very little head tennis and we actually played a bit of football at times.3
-
Deserved point. Yes Soton had lots of shots and possessions, but created few clear cut chances.
A poor first 30, but we settled down as the first half closed, and Collins adjusted to the pace of English football.
The goal was a blow, but Soton never really kicked on, allowing us to grab an equaliser. I thought the Dykes goal was a clear handball incidentally.
Downes was lucky not to get a red, but overall I prefer refs to be more lenient. The ref we had on Tuesday would have given us a few bookings in the first half, which would have affected the way we like to play.3 -
We do ourselves a big favour if we win on Tuesdayjonseventyfive said:Terrific point, now let's win Tuesday.

Fucking brilliant point !!8

West Brom aren't as good as Southampton and don't play the same way, trying to go toe to toe today would have been suicidal but West Brom are there for the taking. I'd be both surprised and disappointed if we didn't take a more attacking approach next time (relatively speaking of course.)golfaddick said:PWR.

Re the talking points........
Thought Dykes did handball it.
The headbutting incident was 50/50 as Coady made the first move & then over exaggerated any touch he may have received.
2 yellows fair imo.4 -
Great battling performance. Really proud of our response and the resilience - same again Tuesday please. Happy with everyone but Lloyd Jones is just immense. Get him a better contract ASAP.7
-
And another point to make is that we are absolutely 100% a better side with Docherty in it.15
